'Supernatural': Jared Padalecki on Sam's evolving hair
It had the best of times. It had the worst of times. Naturally, we're talking about Sam Winchester's hair on "Supernatural." Not since Rachel's ever-changing hairstyles on "Friends" has a TV character's follicles caused so much commotion.
Zap2it spent the weekend with the stars of "Supernatural" at Creation Entertainment's Salute to Supernatural event in Los Angeles, where Sam's much-debated coif was finally brought to Jared Padalecki's attention. (Contrary to popular belief, the sideburns can't speak on their own.)
When asked why Sam's hair has changed as much as his personality throughout the six seasons, Padalecki laughs and says, "I don't know. I think it just changed and grew as Sam changed and grew."
When the show first began, Sam was merely a college student at Stanford looking to get into law school and his hair reflected his innocence and youth. "They wanted Dean to have short hair and Sam to have long hair, they really did," he explains. "But the bangs, I think they thought they looked young."
As the seasons wore on and many miles were added to the Impala, Sam's hair grew longer and fans said goodbye to the "Gilmore Girls" era bangs. "I think they wanted me to look a little bit older, because that's younger. Who knows? Maybe it will [go back to how it was before]. I don't know."

I used to really miss the short look of S1-2 but I think RoboSam must have transferred all the time and energy he used to spend on feelings into his haircare, because his mane's been BEAUTIFUL this season. So soft and shiny and...
Season 5 and season 6 his hair is pretty much the same. And I love it. I for one hate the season 1 hair. NEVER go back!
Jared, Damon, Elijiah... All 3 of them have the same hair style.
Season 1 all the way! Put it back to that haircut. He shows too much forehead in the other seasons. 2 is ok. But it gets worse as the seasons go on.
S-1 definitely! SOOO cute! Definitely looks better with the softness of the bangs.....but looks pretty darned hot no matter WHAT his hair looks like, LOL!
He doesn't look terrible with the longer hair, but he (like most men) looks nicer with a shorter cut, and the bangs helped de-emphasize his forehead. Men also look (and are perceived to be) more intelligent when they part their hair to the side instead of the middle, and he's no exception.
He doesn't hold a candle to Jensen, though. Give me the more compact Texan any day.

All I can say is that it is much work being Sam's sideburns, I have to constantly look fluffy and inviting. I must say that it's definitely worth it, because I'm worth it.
Pretty sure Jared is going to be the one who pretty much decides on Sam's hair since he is the one who has to live with however his hair is, long or shorter, bangs or no bangs, right?
I for one am LOVING this season's hair!
Shave it off or color it another color would Freak ALOT of fans out, but keep them talking...
