'Supernatural' anime: Jared Padalecki to dub first season for U.S. release

spn-anime-jared-jensen.jpgJared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles are getting animated. The "Supernatural" anime series, set for initial release in Japan on Feb. 23, is being dubbed for English-speaking audiences, and a U.S. version is expected to be released on DVD, though no release date has been announced.

In the English language version, Warner Bros. Japan confirms that Padalecki has signed on to dub all 22 episodes as Sam Winchester. Dean, however, may sound a little different - Ackles has signed on to voice only 2 of the episodes. He'll be heard on the final episodes... presumably in which Dean trades his soul for Sam's life. There's no word yet on who will fill in for the other 20 episodes, but we hope he's ready to get his growl on.

In the Japanese version, Sam and Dean Winchester will be voiced by Yuya Uchida and Hiroki Touchi, respectively. They're also the voice-actors who dub over the live action version in Japanese markets. (There are videos of their work available online. Bon Jovi and all.)

The first 22-episode season of the animation will highlight some key plot points from Season 1 and 2 of the live-action version, but will also feature new story lines and, of course, new villains. Ackles and Padalecki did get to approve their anime likenesses -- other characters, like Bobby, John, and Jessica, will be redesigned. We can also expect the ghosts, demons, and other creepy-crawlies to have a new look... without the boundaries of live-action TV, the animators have the opportunity to take it up a notch.

I find it weird Jensen didn't sign on for all episodes, since he's been getting his voice acting on, all over the place.

I'm a disappointed to hear Jensen isn't doing the complete season. I hope there's still a chance he may do it. Since they don't even have a U.S. release date, there may yet be time. Please do it, Jensen! ;)

Jensen should definitely take on the dubbing of Dean in the Anime version of Supernatural-the boys together are so intrinsic to the live action show, I can't imagine anyone else stepping in for the animated take.

JENSEN HAS TO DO THE ANIME FOR DEAN!!!! IT WON'T BE THE SAME!!!! COME ON JENSEN YOU DID IT BEFORE FOR ANOTHER SHOW. IT WILL BE JUST LIKE SUPERNATURAL!!!! PLEASE!!!

Jensen has to do!!!! if he's doing two why not do the rest....besides he's done other animation before....it would be werid without him!!! Jensen HAS to be dEAN!!!

I'm sure he has his reasons of why he's not doing the whole season and that's fine. It's his decision to make, respect that.

is Sam going to get all huge after season 2 in the animation also??

This looks like it will be so much fun! Thanks for the clip!

Jensen probably isn't doing it because of how gay this whole idea is.

Does anybody know where I can find the second animated series dubbed? Or if one even exists? Or if it's going to exist? I fell in love with this show only in the anime version!!!! I must knowwhat happens next!!! Dean can't die!!! OMG OMG OMG!!!!! somebody help me!!!!!!!! Please!!! you can contact me at littlemissgreenjeans3@gmail.com if you have any answers! thanks!!! OMG Sam is so Freaking hot and cute and strong and sexy and OMG OMG OMG!!! why are there no shirtless scenes? It's an anime for crying out loud!!!
