'Grey's Anatomy' creator Shonda Rhimes talks baby fever
It seems this is the season of the baby on "Grey's Anatomy." For some of our beloved characters, the presence or lack of a pregnancy is causing a bit of unrest among the characters and the fans.
Callie's (Sara Ramirez) pregnancy is causing some strife among fans when it comes to Mark (Eric Dane) and Lexie's (Chyler Leigh) romance. And creator Shonda Rhimes is very aware of the unrest among the fandom.
"I think it's interesting," Rhimes tells E!Online. "We have great fans, and I love that. I have to say I really do love them, even when they are sending me tweets of hate, I love them. It feels like everybody can't be happy all the time. That's not television. That's a Hallmark card. And it's charming, but it's not what we set out to do."
It seems that Rhimes won't be letting the 'shippers among "Grey's" fans or the characters off very easily. "Mark has some growing up to do," she says. "And Lexie has some growing up to do, and we're working through that."
Rhimes also suggests that Callie's pregnancy may create some resentment with Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Derek (Patrick Dempsey), who are trying to have their first baby, as well.
"I feel there's a real level of frustration there, I'm sure," she says. "From a couple having trouble conceiving versus a couple who had a one-night stand and got pregnant."
Has this season's baby fever been giving you hives?
