'Dallas' reboot: Producers scout locations outside Texas, despite Larry Hagman's protests

Would the "Dallas" reboot still be "Dallas" if it was shot in Atlanta? Or maybe Canada where many shows have taken advantage of the costs-savings. Even if shooting took place in another Texas location?

According to the original J.R. Ewing, shooting anywhere else wouldn't be the same.

On Wednesday (Feb. 9), Larry Hagman, 79, voiced his disbelief after hearing that TNT's "Dallas" reboot producers were scouting shoot locations outside of the title city. And despite his protests, the producers are moving forward on that plan.

"Yeah, well, those producers are going down either this week or next week," Hagman tells Zap2it. "I hope they get Dallas. It would be awful if they get any place else - just for the publicity angle alone. But, yah know I'm not the head of that organization either."

Hagman, whose participation in the reboot was reportedly endangered by contract negotiations before he signed on to be a regular, is very frank about the reasons the show would shoot outside Dallas.

"Money. It's always about the money," Hagman, who's currently playing Frank on ABC's "Desperate Housewives," says.

The original series, which ended its 14-season run in 1991, shot on location in Dallas and in studios in Los Angeles.

[Editor's note: Hagman tells us he's a regular in the series and not just a recurring character.]

Really Larry? And just how much of the show was actually shot in Dallas the first go round? Especially in the later years? Money talks, especially in these hard times and you go where the deal is.

Wait, Hagman is going to be a regular? I thought he was just going to be in the pilot. This is fantastic! Just make him the central character of this show too and everyone will watch it.

This should be shot in Dallas. No question.

Yes, it's what production has been doing these days. Just recently they shot a film in Philadelphia, which supposed to be "New York City".

boo boo boo boo boo boo boo

It's my understanding that Hagman, Duffy, and Gray will be neither regulars nor one-timers, but rather recurring characters in the show. All three will be in the pilot, of course.

I didn't think it was "news" that the producers were looking to shoot outside Dallas...I think they said this from the get-go (I heard Louisiana the first time around, but I guess now they're looking at other states). I don't have a problem with where they shoot (as another poster pointed out, the majority of the original series was shot in LA), but can't imagine them not using Southfork Ranch in SOME capacity in the new show. The Ranch is just as much a character in Dallas as JR, Bobby and Sue Ellen. Having the family reside anywhere else would be sacrilege.

Shut the "F" up Larry, 1st you said you wouldn't do the reboot and now you are. You've sold your soul, don't know how much ya got for it but now go buy yourself something pretty.

Larry should just cast his pay cheque and shut the hell up.

It`s not a reboot. It continues the original story. Dallas Service Pack 2?

If it isn't broke, don't fix it. Shoot it in Dallas and call it a day.
