'Biggest Loser,' 'Sing-Off,' 'Who Do You Think You Are?' picked up for 2011-12
NBC has picked up three of its unscripted series, including "The Biggest Loser," for the 2011-12 season."The Sing-Off" and "Who Do You Think You Are?" also earned spots in next season's lineup. The news is not all that surprising, since all three shows have performed reasonably well this season. But the announcement is notable for being the first one made by new NBC chairman Bob Greenblatt, who took over the network in the wake of the Comcast-NBC Universal merger.
"Alternative series such as these three bona fide hits are important not only to their loyal audiences but also as strong components of the NBC schedule," Greenblatt says. "They are each unique, attention-getting shows with terrific producing and talent auspices, and we're proud to be associated with them."
"The Biggest Loser" has been one of NBC's most consistent performers in recent seasons. The show's fall cycle averaged 8.3 million viewers and a 3.1 rating in the adults 18-49 demographic; the current season is drawing 9 million people per week and a 3.3 in the demo.
"The Sing-Off" had a solid run in December, averaging 9.2 million viewers over its two weeks and improving considerably over its debut in 2009. "Who Do You Think You Are?," meanwhile, scores about 7 million viewers a week on Friday nights.

Wow, we're really into stretching the definition of hit reality series. And those numbers seem a bit pumped up. By the end of the season Who Do You Think You Are will be lucky to have 4 million viewers, 6 million viewers will be the fortunate number for The Biggest Loser, and The Sing-Off struggled to get 8.8 million viewers for its finale. And just looking at last week's ratings:
Who Do You Think.... 5.8 mil viewers and a 1.2 mil demo
Biggest Loser.... 7.6 mil viewers and 2.7 demo are both already no where near the averages quoted in the article. Sounds like alot of spin.
I'll only be happy if they renew Community & Chuck.
Anything for NBC to put some kind of a positive spin on an overall terrible season so far. Surprised the Kudrow show got picked up. though. Not very good at all.
