'American Idol's' Jennifer Lopez on letting Chris Medina go
"American Idol" judge Jennifer Lopez appeared on Ryan Seacrest's radio show Thursday (Feb. 24) to talk about her emotional reaction Wednesday night to having to let Chris Medina go, despite his incredible backstory of strength and adversity.Seacrest says that they saw "raw, authentic, genuine emotion" during that segment and J.Lo agrees.
"I didn't break down when he was there, necessarily. After he left, it really hit me. I just couldn't believe that I had to deliver this news to this person who I felt had been through a lot and is going through a lot," says Lopez. "I felt like I didn't do it well enough for him, to send him where he needed to go in his life and be OK. I didn't want to be part of that ... he handled it with so much dignity and so much class and that made it worse for me. [laughs] I'm just like, 'Oh, he's so awesome. I respect this person so much.'"
"That was a moment that I didn't expect to be on camera, in the show. It was really hard," she continues. "I was struggling. I was struggling with how to tell him. It's funny because when we were going down the list, I didn't realize that I had to tell him. All of a sudden it was my turn and I'm like, 'How am I gonna say this?'"
But on the other hand, Lopez is glad that kind of struggle has been shown on the show because "people are really getting to know who [she is] as a person."
As far as the show as a whole is going, J.Lo is optimistic that people will continue to tune in, both this season and next.
"I just think if we do a good job right now, people will tune in later and I think we're doing a good job right now," says Lopez. "We're being honest, we're being real, we've having fun and I think that's all we have to do."
"American Idol" airs Wednesday and Thursday nights at 8 p.m. ET/PT on FOX.

SMH ! i loved chris medina, he might not have been AMAZINNG to you guys but to everyone else he was .
His singing sucked. A sob story isn't going to get you far in American Idol if you don't have the voice to back it up. Harsh, but true.
He was ok but I dont think he is top 24 worthy.
