TV Ratings: 'American Idol' down just 3.5% from premiere, still wins easily

scott-mccreary-american-idol.jpgFast National ratings for Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2011

"American Idol" fell slightly from last week's premiere, averaging 25.2 million viewers over last week's 26.1 million. The first hour lost about 5% of viewers from the first hour of the premiere, while the second hour only lost 2%, as the show once again saw a rise in viewers from the first half to the second half.

Interestingly, the second Wednesday show is only down 3.5% from the premiere, but the first Thursday night show lost almost 14% from the premiere. The second Wednesday episode actually did 2.6 million viewers better than the first Thursday night show. Thursdays are not a traditional "Idol" night and it's looking like maybe the competition is stiffer or that the hour-long format, as opposed to the two-hour format, is less appealing. It will be interesting to see how tonight's episode fares.

Things are not looking good for "Off the Map," as the show could not beat a "Law & Order: SVU" rerun. "Live to Dance" with Paula Abdul also slipped a bit from last week and so did "Cougar Town" without a new "Modern Family" as a lead-in.

Overall, "Idol" won handily with its 25.5 million viewers and a 13.7 rating/21 share in households. CBS was next with 9.9 million and 6.2/10, followed by ABC at 6 million, 3.9/6. NBC was next with 4.9 million, 3.1/5 and the CW's reruns were last with 1.2 million, 0.8/1.

In the 18-49 demo, FOX was also successful, with a 9.2 rating, more than four times the number of the next closest competitor. ABC and CBS tied at 2.1, NBC earned a 1.4 and the CW had a 0.4.

Idol is still going down yeah!

Blue Bloods is the best show on TV by far.

ABC should cancel Off the Map after the series or season ends.

I love how Andrea is now doing analysis. Faces are Idiol is tvs number one show and superstar jlo is on it as well. So we are very lucky she is on tv now since she has a sucessful movie singing fashion careers.

Off The Map has stabalized, its much better than other medical dramas such as ER and House.

M E O W= was arrested only twice for stalking JLO

I think that's good that Idol has kept most of last week's audience with this Wednesday show. I think there's a chance that this new trio of judges will be accepted. And I think people are gravitating to the singers of the auditions more than the judges this time with good to mixed comments.

I think at the most they'll average 25 to 26 million, similar to the first few years of the show as they head toward the live shows in mid-February March, April and May. Maybe 20 to 22 million on the Thursday shows because they're against Big Bang Theory, NBC's comedy lineup and ABC's Wipeout and dramas.

OMG is druggy dead yet! LOL

We're told Charlie was taken out of his home on a stretcher and loaded into an ambulance at 7 AM.

Two young women exited the house at the same time Charlie was taken out with a towel partially over his face.

Charlie was transported to Cedars-Sinai Hospital in L.A. We're told tests were performed and doctors are waiting for results.

The 911 call was placed at 6:35 AM.

Sources say Charlie was having severe abdominal pains which triggered the 911 call. Stan Rosenfield, Charlie's publicist, tells TMZ Charlie was in the emergency room this morning -- sleeping.

We're told Charlie's father, Martin Sheen, and his mom, Janet Templeton, are at the hospital. Charlie's ex-wife, Denise Richards, is also there.

UPDATE: Neighbors tell TMZ Charlie threw some sort of party last night. They heard women inside Charlie's house singing Red Hot Chili Peppers songs throughout the evening. The party went on -- loudly -- well into the wee hours.

UPDATE: Charlie's medical emergency will not immediately affect production ... "Two and a Half Men" is on hiatus this week

I just wish the judges were just a we bit meaner to the contestants who can't sing. Also, I HATE IT when they let people through who beg their way to Hollywood. It needs to stop.

i think blue bloods was great last night. i love blue bloods..
