'The Real Housewives of Atlanta's' Cynthia Bailey on her wedding: 'It was hard to stop the train'

In the finale of "The Real Housewives of Atlanta," we finally get to see Cynthia Bailey's wedding, which went down amid some major drama between her and then-fiancé, Peter Thomas

"What you guys all have to understand is that you guys are watching it as a TV show," Cynthia tells Zap2it. "But all these things were really happening and really affecting our life."

Spoiler alert: She may have had some second thoughts, but she goes through with the lavish ceremony. She walked the aisle in front of 200 people at Atlanta's grand Fernbank Museum of Natural History last year on July 24.

We spoke to the housewife about why she didn't postpone the ceremony and how it would compare to something "over the top" cast mate Phaedra Parks would throw.

You've admitted to being "the runaway bride" before. Why did you go through with it this time, especially with all the drama at the time?
This situation is the closest I've ever gotten to walking down the aisle. The other situations were ones in which I walked away much earlier on in the engagement. We definitely had, I don't even want to say red flags, I want to say flags on fire, really, saying, 'Shut it down.' But at the same time, we want to do it. We wanted to get married and it was kind of hard to stop the train once it started rolling.

It's not like it was easy at that point to say okay, we spent all this money, let's just cancel it, tell everyone, 'Sorry you took off work. Sorry you bought your tickets. Sorry you got your hotel rooms already' and we're just going to go the courthouse. That really didn't feel like a sensible option, because we were so far into it.

Peter had dropped a bomb on you when he told you he had closed the nightclub and you were really worrying about money. How'd you pull it off?
Even though the wedding was beautiful and looked very lavish, it actually, you know, wasn't a million dollar wedding or anything. We worked it out and I had a very, very strong team and a supportive team behind me who could just pull it off.

And how would it compare to an event Phaedra would throw?
First of all, the only roses that were at the wedding were in a vase. That's the first thing [laughing], all flowers were carried or in a vase. Nobody had any in their hair. The only thing that was over-the-top was my beloved dinosaurs and that's because they were at the museum of history and I couldn't obviously take them out. For the most part, I'll just say at the end of the day, Phaedra had the baby shower she wanted - like it or not. And I had the wedding I wanted - like it or not.

Cynthia Bless both of you for a long and happy life.

God Bless Both of you.

Well first off Congrats!!!! I maybe contradicting myself but I REALLY don't think you should have married him. U had all the signs, but I really hope you have a very happy and productive marriage. Remember put god first and everything will fall into place.

Cynthia, I'm proud of you, I've really grown to like you as a person and for standing up for yourself and what you believe in. I think it was wrong for your family & friends to try and tell you to call off what you want. I'm glad you stood your ground , cause at the end of the day you know your man, and your heart. I think you are a beautiful couple and they jealous cause you got your dark chocolate baby. Congrates and Good luck on your life together. Be Blessed! woop woop

Congrats Cynthia! I was rooting for you and Peter. I would suggest, however, not broadcasting your financial troubles or relationship troubles to people who don't really care about you. They will only talk about you. Keep your business between the two of you and you two will go far. I'm sure Peter's ego must have been wounded to have so many know that he couldn't provide for you two at that very moment. Just keep some of your business between you two. Peace and Blessings!

Cynthia, If you are a supermodel and that was the best you could do then there is no hope for the rest of us.

very well put Cynthia....the comment that Phadra had the shower she wanted and that you had the wedding you wanted. i loved you and Peter from the beginning and your soft spoken sister Mal...the scene with you and your daughter was soooo beautiful she will grow to be elegant and classy as you are
