'Survivor: Redemption Island' fuels Rob Mariano, Russell Hantz rumors by revealing only 16 cast members

survivor-redemption-island-cast.jpg"Survivor: Redemption Island" has just fueled the fire that Boston Rob Mariano and Russell Hantz are joining the cast this season. CBS has said that there are 18 cast members, but there are only 16 revealed so far on their site.

Furthermore, the show is always gender-equal and nine of the 16 are women, meaning if they add two surprise guests who are both male, there will be nine of each gender.

The Rob-Russell rumors started when both were featured at the finale for the last "Survivor," which was when CBS announced the "Redemption Island" twist.

Are you excited at the prospect of Rob and Russell facing off (or perhaps joining forces) on "Survivor"? We aren't sure how we feel about it. Their rivalry during "Heroes vs. Villains" wasn't that fun to watch, to be honest. But it sure would be fun to see them work together.

The cast members so far are as follows:

Andrea Boehlke, student, Random Lake, WI

Mike Chiesl
, former Marine, Del Mar, CA

Matt Elrod, pre-med student, Nashville, TN

Francesca Hogi, attorney, Washington DC

Kristina Kell, law student, Malibu, CA

Krista Klumpp, pharmaceutical rep, Columbia, SC

Ralph Kiser, farmer, Lebanon, VA

Grant Mattos, yoga instructor, West Hollywood, CA

David Murphy
, defense attorney, West Hollywood, CA

Phillip Sheppard
, technology executive, Santa Monica, CA

Natalie Tenerelli, professional dancer, Acton, CA

Ashley Underwood, nurse, Benton, ME

Stephanie Valencia, waitress, Long Beach, CA

Sarita White, visual effects producer, Santa Monica, CA

Julie Wolfe, firefighter, Oceanside, CA

Steve Wright, former NFL player, Huntington Beach, CA

"Survivor: Redemption Island" premieres Wednesday, Feb. 16 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on CBS.

I wonder if they would make them captains and have a team Russell and team Boston Rob

Rather California native heavy with those new contestants. Usually there's a more diverse representation of America in the casting. Strange.....

I never thought I'd been cheering for "Boston Rob" I couldn't help but choose his side on the Heroes vs Villans season.

mjf ... it's been pretty Cali-heavy for many seasons now ... because, despite the bazillions of applications for the show, they keep on 'casting' people from the LA area

yeah their casting sucks---i gave up applying years ago---i'd have better luck getting on the show if i was a bartender in Hollywood who never heard of the show.

wat is the article taking abt the on heroes vs villians that rob vs russell want fun to watch...it was amazing to watch it...

10 of the 16 are from California. Have they finally dropped the pretense that this is a competition and really just a fame vehicle?

Boston Rob again?? Yuck! I'm so sick of that ugly piece of S*&t

I noticed that then when asked how they got a show, more and more are saying they were recruited to be on.

I had not heard the rumors of the returning cast, and I have to say it turns me off. I watch the show for new faces and to see the surprises of how things develop...I mean, who would have predicted Fabio? I'd be perfectly happy never to see Rob or especially Russell again.
