Sarah Michelle Gellar set to star in CBS pilot, 'Ringer'

buffy-finale.jpgJust as god rested after creating the world, Sarah Michelle Gellar has been taking it relatively easy on the TV-front since the 2003 end of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer."

But that may soon change.

Vulture reports that CBS has given a pilot order for "Ringer," a thriller with the 33-year-old actress set to star.

The series follows a young woman on the run from the mob, who tries to lay low by pretending to be her wealthy twin sister -- only to realize that she too has a price on her head. A little convoluted? Yes. But does it really matter when you're talking about a series that would star two Sarah Michelle Gellars? Not in the least.

Gellar serves as co-executive producer on the project, which was created by "Supernatural" scribes Eric Charmelo and Nicole Snyder.

Though she's mostly focused on film work -- and motherhood -- since departing the tube almost eight years ago, Gellar did star in an unsuccessful pilot for HBO in 2008, "The Wonderful Maladys."

Finally, SMG is back in her element making genre shows like she's supposed to. I'm tired of watching Eliza Dushku making Joss Whedon look bad, and SMG isn't exactly a successful movie star with a string of flops like 'The Grudge,' 'The Return,' 'Southland Tales' and 'Scooby Doo.'

Welcome back, Buffy!

How do you lay low by pretending to be rich? I don't see this going more than a couple of episodes.

I would hardly call a $40 million weekend opening a flop...

Regardless, I agree that TV is where she is in her element! Keeping my fingers crossed that it gets picked up to series!

The Grudge = $187 million worldwide
Scooby Doo = $275 million worldwide

Yep, flops indeed!

Idiot.

Yall are the idiots. He said nothing about her movies at all. Nothing about Schooby Doo or the Grudge. He clearly made one little comment about a show she did in 2008 that was cancelled... get with the program and chilllll.

I would love to see more of SMG and TV is so her element. I love Buffy!

Donna, they were talking about the first poster who claimed SMG was not a bankable movie star, not Mickey's article.

As for SMG possibly returning to TV? If CBS picks this up, they will finally have me as a permanent viewer and not a summer mainstay for Big Brother. Here's hoping we see SMG back in 2011!

God should be capitalised in the first sentence. Just sayin

Would be glad to have her back on tv, but the show sounds really lame. Would have preferred a supernatural thriller for her.

I've missd SMG and will certainly tune in.... but if the show's no good, it won't matter who's the star (sic...Eliza Dushku, whom I also like).
