'American Idol': Steven Tyler 'not sure' why he's doing the show, more information on changes
"American Idol" hit the winter TV critics press tour on Dec. 11 and brought along their two new judges, who received most of the questions.
Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez were both asked why they decided to do the show. "Why am I doing this? I'm not sure yet," Tyler answered. "I've got years of my father in me and this musicianship. When someone opens their mouth, I think I can see it, their character and what they've got."
Later, Tyler revealed another reason why he wanted to do the show: Lopez's movie, "The Back-up Plan."
"I saw her be so vulnerable and so real and I immediately thought, 'I want to sit next to that.' I saw a vulnerable side that you really don't see in someone of her elk."
Lopez admits she was hesitant at first to do the show, but then realized she could put her past experience to good use on 'Idol.' "Where else can I put it to good use than by helping other artists? I'm so glad I made the choice." She also joked that she was a "bedroom judge" when she watched previous seasons at home.
Returning judge Randy Jackson explained his judging persona has changed since Lopez and Tyler joined the show. "I think it's changed a bit. You'll see a little bit more of an assertive dawg, a little more hair on the dawg, if you will. Fewer yo's, maybe more no's, less dawg's."
Tyler gave a bit of a preview as to what people can expect to see at the judges' table between the new trio. "I turn red in the face after I say something weird, she bails me out and Jackson says, 'Woah!'"
Host Ryan Seacrest is excited to film the live shows with the new judging trio, even though he knows it will be different without his banter with Simon Cowell. "I don't know what it's like live yet, but I'm looking forward to it. I'm hoping it's like a circus. You have to host is like it's a sporting event," he says. "I'm inspired by the new life here. I love it. Simon and I had our banter and people knew us for that but this is a whole new dynamic. There's a genuine camaraderie for this crew."
When asked about all the changes the show will be going through this season, executive producer Cecile Frotz-Coutaz says, "I think it's important when you have such a change in your cast, you evolve with it. Otherwise, you're putting a new cast in someone else's show."
Some of those changes include what some have been calling a Las Vegas round, which executive producer Nigel Lythgoe was quick to clarify:"It's not really Las Vegas round. We went to Vegas because the Beatles show was in Vegas. The idea was they had to learn a Beatles song overnight."
Contestants also have the opportunity to sing an original song for the first time in the show's history. Lythgoe admits, "That's going to be limited to a certain degree." Frot-Coutaz elaborates, "Going forward, when you get to theme weeks, you're back to covers for the most part."
Hollywood Week has also been an extended an additional week, something producers decided to do in order for the audience to get to know the contestants better earlier on. Frot-Coutaz also admits the change was made because "the middle rounds of the show is a part of the show that has always been a bit of a weak point."
The panel also addressed the decline in album sales for contestants from the last few seasons. "It's about records," Jackson explains. "The record has to be great. The mistake that people make is that they look at the show and think, 'If I win, I'm guaranteed to be a success.'" Seacrest adds, "It shows you how hard it is to have a great record," even with a springboard like the show.
Finally, when asked if the show will use a five-second delay due to Tyler's use of foul language (he says 'f*** a duck' in the audition footage), he exclaims, "F*** no!"

"Of her elk?" Uh, did you mean ilk? Or is she some kind of hybrid creature?
I'm not sure why he is either. But I'm glad he is it will be the downfall with JLo as judges goodbye American Idol.
Well, hope he doesn't figure it out and want out. He is the only reason I will check in now and again.
Stephen Tyler agreeing to be a judge on AI is bad enough. But now he admits to watching The Back-Up Plan? What happened, he used to be cool?
Hello,
American Idol is my favorite show, I write songs for pop artists, 1,767 so far. I have always wanted to open a talent show in Saint Lucie West, close to where the Mets practise. I'm from NY and there is where my life started to go downhill, I was critically injured while delivering Newsday by an uninsured driver, she iis around my mothers age, and she filed $150,000.00 bankrupt on a chicken business south of NY the next day while I was in the ICU unit of Brookhaven hospital. The person who hit me is named Virginia Quinn, she started living on the samen road I lived on in NY, she never apologized or offerd to help in any way, she just lost her license for one year. That was just the begining of the traumas I've delt with, Walgreens co. put me through alot worse, they drugged me with the wrong medicines for 8 1/2 years. They never had my medical info. logged in their computers, they had another Kelly Brennan in their system, she sees one of the same doctors I do, and she is 20 years younger then me. Sense I have a naturally high pitched voice, Walgreens assumed that I was her when I called in to give my medical info., things I was allergic to, and my medical history. I wrote a rap song which details my life pretty well after the first accident. Before the injury I had many goals I wanted to pursue, I was an honor student in Sachem on Long Island, I was considerd a jocket, I was on the gymnastic team in school, I was into art and I wanted to go into architecture, drafting, and accounting, I was great in math, I played the flute in school, and the glocks, and the triplet drums in the Farmingville Fire Departments marching band, I think our name was The Bandits.
I delivered Newsday and on May 8th, 1981 I was critically injured, it was a Friday.
I wrote a poem about the accident, and after this poem is when i started writing lyrics with melodies,'SAFETY' is the title of the poem, this was just the begining of the pain I've gone through though, Walgreens co. in Port Saint Lucie, Florida made me experience much worse. Peter Dubins use to talk on the news 12 tv station, I called him up and told him about my life, and about the pain which Walgreens put me through, he told me to send the facts I had to him so he could look them over, he said he would send them back to me, he never did. He was fired after news 12 had seen the info. I sent, they informed Walgreens, and Walgreens caused Peter Dubins to lose his job. Walgreens made me sign a confidential agreement for one year after they found out that I was trying to share the facts of how they drugged me, and almost killed me so many times. They wrote in the agreement that if I told anyone and they found out, $ 500,000.00 would be taken out of the amount I was trying to sue them for, for malpractise. They kept on calling my house and asking me to bring down facts I had proving that they drugged me, so I did. Each time I did, $500,000.00 was taken from the $1,500,000.00 I tried sueing them for, for malpractise. Walgreens never had any medical information on me, they had another Kelly Brennan who is 20 years younger then me, and they just gave me perscriptions inside her files, they were the wrong medicines for the infections I suffered, and I came so close to death many times during the first 8 1/2 years we lived in Port Saint Lucie because of Walgreens mistakes.
I'll write the poem first for you, please share everything with everyone, and then I'll follow it uth the rap song based on my life. I took a course down at the community center on how to write lyrics, I've only written a small amount the correct way, I've written 1,768 songs, I write them in script to a certain format so I can understand how they are supposed to sound.
' SAFETY '
----------------------------------
While riding my bike
After school, in May
Delivering papers
Titled Newsday
I was struck
By a car
Which hit me
Head on
And forced off of
My bike
With an impact
Quite strong
I went into a coma
For 21 days
My jaw bone
Had broke
On each side
They say...
I bruised all
My ribs
And fractured
My skull
My upper left arm
Broke in half
Just as well..
My left side
Was paralyzed
From fluid
In my brain
Which left me
A problem
Remembering
Things
Career goals
Were ruined
What I wanted
To be....
Due, to my severe..
Head injury....
I inform people
On, how it feels
To deal with
A pain
Which won't
Ever heal..
Though now I
Share knowledge
Which I
Didn't know
We, should always
Wear helmets
And go
With the flow....
----------------------------------
I bled through my ears and nose
for a month and a half,
My left lung was puntured,
My skull was fractured in 5 places, My taibone was fractured in 3 places,
I developed scoliosous in 4 parts of my lower back,
My bones have shrunk,
I've shrunk an inch and a half,
I became partially deafn my ears from the brain fluid which built up while I was in a coma,
I've lost a great deal of hair, which had thinned out too,
I now have a limp in my walk,
and I became allergic to phenobarbitol, pennicillian, and red dye,
But that was nothing compared to the sufferings Walgreens made me experience, during their malpractise, I considerd suicide 3 times. I've gotten into 18 car accidents, I gained 150 lbs., I almost got divorced so many times due to the changes I was going through because of the wrong medicines 3 Walgreens located in Port aint Lucie put me through. They never had me logged in their computers, they assumed that I was another Kelly Brennan who is 20 years younger then I, we both see Dr. Furman, and that's it.
I'll write the song for you now, I've spent around $100,000.00 in medical expenses because of their mistakes. I'll write the lyrics in syllables so whoever reads this could understand it better.

----------------------------------
Walgreens caused me to be involved in 18 car accidents,
Fall constantly, causing my limbs to be misaligned,
Have 105 fevers,
Nedical bills galore,
They caused me to gain 150 lbs.,
Consider suicide 3 times,
And when I told this to the employees, one comented,
'Well what stopped you, or, Why didn't you ? '
Walgreens co. is not just a pharmacy to help the sick get better, they drug handicap people with the wrong medicines and take advantage of their handicaps so they don't have to pay for their mistakes !
