Jennifer Love Hewitt 'bummed' for 'Ghost Whisperer's' Melinda
Jennifer Love Hewitt knows, especially given her name, that she'll always be linked to romance.Last year, the former "Ghost Whisperer" star became an author with the relationship memoir "The Day I Shot Cupid," and she made headlines again for having a new beau ... actor-director Alex Beh. Hewitt's next television project reaffirms her ties to love: She stars with Betty White in the "Hallmark Hall of Fame" drama "The Lost Valentine" Sunday, Jan. 30, on CBS.
"I definitely tend to gravitate toward things that have romance in them," Hewitt confirms to Zap2it. "I had a lot of fun writing the book, and I really would like to write another one at some point, though I'm not sure when I'll be able to do that. I learned some things from people who read the book, and I learned some things about myself on the book tour. I feel I have some things to say about that."
However, Hewitt has nothing to say -- not yet, at least -- about Valentine's Day 2011. "It's one of my favorite holidays," she allows, "but I don't know what our plans are going to be."
While she has come to terms with the end of "Ghost Whisperer," Hewitt admits that took some time. Now a nominee for a Golden Globe Award for the Lifetime movie "The Client List," she bought into rumors that ABC might pick up her weekly drama when CBS canceled it last spring after five seasons.
"For me, it was a total shock," she says of realizing the series wouldn't continue. "I thought our next season probably would be the last, just because the show had been on for a really long time. It's hard to come up with new things that will keep people intrigued, but I never thought in a million years that was going to have been our last season.
"I was bummed for Melinda," Hewitt adds about her spectre-seeing "Ghost Whisperer" character, "because I didn't feel the series ended the way that she deserved for it to. We left the audience sort of hanging, and I hate that.
"When you've taken people on a journey for so long, the least you can do is give them a goodbye. For a show that was about unfinished business, we didn't get to finish."

Yes...finish the story. I love the Ghost Whisperer. I had just got caught up to season 4 when I learned they canceled the show. So could there be a short movie that would give the fans an ending.
As were a lot of people I was very disappointed to see Ghost Whisperer had not been picked up for at least one more year. But, I guess as they say, all good things must come to an end. But I enjoyed it while it was on. The only thing that confused me was how short Melinda's pregnancy was and how fast Aiden aged. I know I missed one or two showes but surly I didn't miss that much. If I can get an answer to that connundrum I'd be a sadder but less confused individual. Hey, I have an idea lets have Van Praag and John Edwards write and produce a show that compines both of their different experiences as psychics. You have to admit it would be interesting. R.I.P. Ghost Whisperer.

Actually, Ana, Melinda's pregnancy was much longer than normal. In the year she gave birth, she did so at the end of September (just as predicted by the Book of Changes and dictated by the CBS schedule) but in order to have been pregnant by Jim before he died the preceding November, the pregnancy would have been at least eleven months long. As far as Aiden aging, remember that for the last season, once they established his birth in the first episode they just randomly jumped ahead five years to gloss over the continuity mess created in the previous season by Jim's ghost jumping into and sharing Sam's body, then Sam sacrificing himself to let Jim keep the body which Melinda then married. While David Conrad continued to play the role of Jim as before for the sake of the audience's sanity and his career, no one ever addressed the fact that as far as the rest of the world was concerned, the man who was Melinda's husband, Aiden's father and the hospital's doctor was Sam Lucas, not the deceased Jim Clancy.
I'm so disappointed that one of my favorite shows was canceled! I looked forward to Friday nights when it came on. How could they keep medium on and not Ghost Whisperer? Please bring it back on i'm sure other fans feel the same way! Love that show!! A disappointed fan! Laurie
I'm totally with JLH on this one and it is good to hear her speak. As a loyal Ghost Whisperer fan, I really feel cheated that we weren't allowed a Season 6, as I feel all the actors/producers, feel. Please, not much time has passed and it is NEVER too late to bring back Ghost Whisperer, please don't be proud CBS, bring back our beloved show at least for one more year to allow it to Finish with dignity and as Jennifer said, honor the true meaning of the show of resolved Unfinished business! Thank you!
I agree with Jennifer Love Hewitt I miss Ghost Whisperer.... I think we got cheated out, I think their was more to the story... Ghost Whisperer needs a second chance please I want Ghost Whisperer back..
I used to like this show, but then when I started counting each outfit little Miss Sexpot wore in each show, which just had to show her cleavage, I couldn't stand it any more. 99.9% of every piece of clothing she wore, regardless of whether it was summer or winter, her pride and joys just had to be peaking out of her clothing staring at you in the face. Come on Jennifer... we all know you like to flaunt your body, but not in a prime time family viewing time slot, and not in the face of a little kid, and give me a break... exposing them while cooking too? I for one am glad I don't have to look at your boobies anymore!
I am also really bummed about this cancellation! I just started watching it and got hooked. The last episode of Season 5 just totally leaves you hanging. I was wondering if I missed something, but yea maybe it is time to make a movie to satisfy your viewers. There's no way it could be any worse than either Sex and the City movies! Ha ha and look how many chicks went to see both of those! = $$$. By the way, did you have to pick "Sam," Mr. Double Chin? He was so unattractive. Yeesh I will tell you who is attractive: her presumed 1/2 brother. Well as we all know now, he is not really her brother. Hey now!
I agree with JLH. They should give GW a true ending. Either give us a true ending or give us a full season 6 so that season will be the final this one does not belong to be the ending. See just like Mel says "We cant give up cause if we do it means it is really over." I dont think I can handle it. I cried so hard when I heard that this show was cancelled. this show helped me with so much. Please it has been a rated #1 Friday night show all 5 years and Medium hasnt. So they should cancel it insteading.
I was sadden by the end of Ghost Whisperer, looking forward to a new season. Enjoyed the show and JLH.
I always loved the clothes she wore, she's a beautiful woman in which her choice of her clothes compliment her beauty. I will be looking forward to her new shows, but really miss the Ghost Whisperer series.
