'Human Target,' 'Cougar Town,' 'Chase' all get rescheduled after Wednesday pre-emptions
The live network news coverage of the memorial service for victims of the shootings in Tucson played havoc with the regular TV schedule Wednesday night (Jan. 12), causing anguished cries of "Where's my show?!" from fans of "Human Target," "Cougar Town" and other series. Here's the of when you'll be able to catch the episodes originally scheduled for Wednesday -- and what happened to cause it.
- FOX says it will air the two "Human Target" episodes that were bumped Wednesday from 8 to 10 p.m. ET Friday (Jan. 14). The show moves off the schedule for a time next week to make room for "American Idol."
- ABC rested "Better With You" for a week and is moving the "Cougar Town" episode that was scheduled for Wednesday, "A Thing About You," to next Wednesday (Jan. 19). The two subsequent episodes will also slide back a week. ("Cougar Town" then goes on hiatus for a couple months to make way for new comedy "Mr. Sunshine," so the episode originally scheduled for Feb. 2 will air after its return in April.)
Additionally, ABC says it will air an encore of the "Off the Map" season premiere after "Grey's Anatomy" on Thursday night in place of "Private Practice." The "PP" episode set for Thursday will now air Feb. 3.
- NBC will air the episode of "Chase" that was set for 9 p.m. Wednesday on the 19th, and subsequent episodes all move back one week. As there are only seven episodes remaining in its season, the move won't affect the March 16 premiere of "America's Next Great Restaurant."
All those changes come as a result of longer-than-expected news coverage of the Tucson memorial, which included a speech by President Obama. Network coverage ended about 9:20 p.m. ET; NBC and FOX joined their shows ("Minute to Win It" and "Kitchen Nightmares") in progress, while CBS aired "Live to Dance" in its entirety, which meant that "The Defenders" started about 10:20 p.m.
The oddest situation happened at ABC, which aired a new "Modern Family" in its entirety after its news coverage ended, then about nine minutes of a repeat in the Eastern and Central time zones (viewers out west saw the full rerun) so that "Off the Map" could start on time at 10 p.m.
For the record: An earlier version of this story stated that Friday's "Human Target" episodes were the last two of the season. They are not; there are three more remaining in the order after that.

Chase had already previously been pulled for another episode of Minute To Win It, but yes, it was a strange night for TV. I'm in Canada, where some of these episodes went ahead. For instance, I saw the final Human Target, but I missed the one that aired in the 8pm hour, so I'm glad to know I can catch it on Friday. That whole Modern Family mess-up with bizarre! Some switcher made a big mistake, I think.
Why is FOX burning "Human Target" episodes 2 at a time? Not a good sign for renewal. Hope I'm wrong. It's a great show!!
I just want to be sure... so will ABC air yesterday's Better with You episode next week, or will it not air at all?
Just so everyone knows, those two episodes are NOT the last two of the season. There are three more after; five more total to be seen. And they are all really good! Yay!
Yah, I'm kind of confused about the statement that these are the last two episodes of Human Target's season, unless they're talking about the winter season and it's going to be airing more episodes this summer, as Burn Notice and Royal Pains, et al, do. Because I'm sure I read somewhere that they'd ordered extra episodes and/or had renewed it for another year.
I really apologize what happen last night despite the pre-empted schedule they had on the Tucson tragedy but I can't wait for CHASE to return next week.
I live in NY and Fox did not show the Memorial but instead aired another two TV shows . What would airing Human Target have to do with the AZ Shooting Memorial?
It makes no sense to me.
I think it's safe to say that ratings won't matter from last night due to all the confusion but it should get back on track tonight.
Rick next time get your information straight before writing this stuff. Human Target (YES) is airing friday jan 14th with 2 episodes, but no its not the last 2 episodes of the season. The next episode was suppose to air on the 26th after American idol but fox expanded the american idol from 1 hour to 2 hours which bumps the next human target episode to Jan 31st.. the title of the Jan 31st episode is Kill Bob..
There are still 2 episodes after that to be aired which for now is scedueled for feb 2nd and feb 9th.. Also whats so horrible about your research is that before the 2nd season even started fox announced that it had a 13 episode order with 2 scripts. Human target more than likely won't get the other 2 scripts made into episodes but the 13 episodes will still air NOT JUST 10.
