Golden Globes 2011: Robert Downey Jr. must host next year

With all due respect to the incomparable Ricky Gervais, who was a phenomenal choice as host for the 2011 Golden Globes... it's time for Robert Downey Jr. to take his turn. Through a night of excruciatingly boring or canned presentations, Downey's was the only one that didn't feel like a "bit" as he presented the award for Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical film.He graciously offered his advice for women trying to succeed in Hollywood: "I don't know if an actress can do her best work until I've slept with her." He called out all of the nominated actresses, scolding them for their, uh, indiscretions... even the youngest of the bunch.
"I'm not trying to creep anyone out," he said, "But where's Emma [Stone]?"
He stared pointedly at her. To her credit, Stone met his gaze, unfaltering.
When the jig was up and he finally admitted that he hadn't actually hooked up with any of the nominees - Annette Bening, Anne Hathaway, Angelina Jolie, Stone, and Julianne Moore, for the record - he did note that he'd be happy to, any time.
"I'm just saying, if I could, I'd give it to all five of you. At once. Right here. Center stage. In front of my wife, the audience, and millions of viewers."
Seriously, Downey. Clear your schedule and host next year. You're the only sober guy in the room; you deserve to hog the spotlight.

I think this will be the last time Gervais will be asked to host the Golden Globes. He got way too caustic this time around.
Robert Downey Jr. was, by far, the funniest, most entertaining part of the entire show. I laughed so hard I cried. Had to keep pausing and rewinding to hear what he said because I couldn't stop laughing. Ricky Gervais wasn't even in the same league.
It just goes to show that people have different senses of humor. Ricky Gervais made me laugh and cringe at the same time--as usual. On the other hand, I didn't think Robert Downey Jr. was funny at all.
Ricky Gervais was absolutely hilarious. Clever, witty and so in line with the truth. He is the kind of comic that makes fun of himself, as well as others, relentlessly. I doubt you'd see him getting his panties in a bunch if other comedians made him the butt of their jokes. Hollywood... GET OVER YOURSELVES!!!

I am sure that Ricky Gervais will host the 2012 Golden Globes. It sure sounded like they made a mistake with his award. That Robert Downey Junior really won for Ironman. I hope that it is really the case and he is really happy and surprised about that result!
