'Change of Plans' star Brooke White on acting: 'I thought it was more fun than hard'

brooke-white-change-of-plans.jpg"American Idol" Season 7 finalist Brooke White is trying her hand at a new artistic endeavor -- acting. The songstress stars in the FOX made-for-TV movie "Change of Plans," also starring Joe Flanigan and Phylicia Rashad. White plays Sally Danville, a performer who is suddenly thrust into raising four children with her husband Jason (Flanigan).

The title of the movie is "actually quite perfect" as a parallel for this new turn Brooke's career has taken, the blonde singer says.

"It was not something I was anticipating. I wasn't sure if acting was something I wanted to do, I wasn't out auditioning or anything like that," says White. "My first day on set I was hyperventilating a little bit. [laughs]. But after a week of shooting I completely fell in love with it."

Even though the movie is Brooke's first foray into acting, she didn't have much time to prepare, which she thinks may  have been all for the best.

"Literally when I found out I got the part, I was shipped off to Toronto within two days. There was very little time to think or prepare, which was probably in my best interest," White laughs. "The hardest part about acting was probably my 4:30 a.m. wake-up call every day. There were certain technical aspects I wasn't super-savvy to, but it felt very natural. I thought it was more fun than hard."

It also wasn't much of a stretch for White, as she plays a singer-songwriter in the movie. She also tells us she co-wrote the songs she performs for the movie and the soundtrack, produced by her "Idol" pal Randy Jackson (who also cameos as himself).

"Change of Plans" airs Saturday, Jan. 8 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on FOX as part of the "Family Movie Night" series.

Poor Joe, after Stargate Atlantis, it seems his acting chops has been cut short. I feel really bad for him especially when he has to act alongside a a wanna-be....

Nice family movie,Am from uganda and i enjoyed watching my country in the movie and the way it was depicted

I saw it last night as a Joe Flanigan fan that was crushed when they stopped the popular "Stargate Atlantis" series. I got my Joe fix, but have to say as an Idol Watcher that Brooke White was outstanding! Congrats to her! I thought she was wonderful. Brook joins a long list of singers that have success in acting or on stage. Idol sports Jennifer Hudson, Katherine McPhee as actresses of success (can't do better than Hudsons Oscar!).
Now we might one day look forward to the strange, talented, and sweet Siobhan Magnus finding her niche can expand to some acting roles. Like with Brooke, Kate, Jennifer - the camera loves Magnus and she has a charisma. (and amateur acting experience)

It was a Great show. I came here to find out when the next show would be on - I thought it was a series. ): I would watch it every week!

it was cutesy and i loved it. brooke did a more than adequate job.
