'American Idol's' Randy Jackson: 'Season 10: The Remix' will surprise; 'It's a girl's year to lose'
"American Idol" is gearing up for its 10th season on FOX and judge Randy Jackson says that "Season 10: The Remix" is going to pleasantly surprise the viewers."I think 'Idol' is gonna do really, really well this year," says Jackson. "The addition of Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez has really added ... a freshness to it. I've been calling it 'Idol Season 10: The Remix.' I think people will be pleasantly surprised."
We've been hearing rumors that Randy, as the veteran judge, has been taking over the Simon Cowell role, but Jackson insists that's not entirely accurate.
"I don't think I've stepped into the Simon Cowell shoes. Those shoes can't be filled, nor do I want to be in them," Jackson laughs. "But I'm excited. You may see a new version of the dawg, there's more hair on the dawg. Definitely you will see me take a little more of an assertive role because I'm the young veteran on the show."
As for all the changes the show has made for its remix, Randy doesn't think it's too much. The show we all know and love will still be there, just with a few enhancements.
"I think we're just trying to add things that enhance the viewers' participation and the viewers' interest," says Jackson. "I think it just makes the show more and more enjoyable. It's not completely baby out with the bathwater. It's small changes and the most changes you'll see will be to the middle rounds, but it's still the show you know and love, it ain't gonna be changed that much."
Jackson also tells us that there have been some standouts so far, both male and female, but he's predicting a very successful female winner this year.
"I think we're going to have a really successful winner ... and I'm going to go with a female," Jackson predicts. "There are some standouts on both sides, but I'm thinking it's a girl's year to lose."
Of course, he said that last year too. But perhaps Season 10 will see the next Kelly Clarkson or Carrie Underwood.
"American Idol" premieres Wednesday, Jan. 19 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on FOX.

They said it was a girl's year to lose last year as well, and a guy won.
9 seasons later and Idol has yet to produce another Kelly Clarkson. So good luck with that....
Sorry Amy, but Carrie Underwood is way more successful then Kelly Clarkson.
Not worldwide.
If worldwide sales are taken into account, Kelly is by far the most successful Idol alumni.
Panda, Carrie Underwood is only a tiny bit more popular than Kelly in America. But Kelly is more of a global star than Carrie will ever be. I know it's "American" Idol, but still, America is the only country who produces many universally popular stars. I love them both though!
It's EVERYONE'S year to lose, because with Simon gone, everyone loses. Wake up; this is NOT American Idol. This is a generic, second rate talent competition with one judge and two celebrity seat fillers. It's like going to KFC and getting a bucket of boiled chicken. No spice, no flavor, no excitement. This time of year will never be the same again. And X Factor is almost a whole year away.
Yes, Kelly Clarkson is definitely way more versatile a singer than (predominantly country sounding) Carrie Underwood. Amy Lynne is correct...there has never been another idol like Kelly...She's an international superstar!
good luck finding another Kelly Clarkson.
Throat singers like Carrie Underwoof don't count. Adam Lambert should have won. Good luck to them finding one like him.
Kelly and Chris are awesome too.
