'American Idol': Thia Megia was 'America's Got Talent' semi-finalist

thia-megia-americas-got-talent.jpg"American Idol's" Milwaukee auditions featured a bevvy of 15-year-old auditionees. One of them was Thia Megia and right away that name rang a bell with us.

Turns out she was a semi-finalist on "America's Got Talent" back in 2009. She initially auditioned with Jennifer Holliday's "I Am Changing" and we remember it was very good. Her version of Miley Cyrus' "The Climb" was not as strong, but she still has some great talent, especially for her age. We wrote this about her the night she was eliminated:

"The judges go Piers voting for Thia because she's progressed (that's debatable), Sharon voting for Arcadian and The Hoff voting for Arcadian Broad. Thia can go try out for 'American Idol' in two years, she'll be fine."

Clearly, we are psychic. Here is Thia's "AGT" performance and her "Idol" audition. It was very good, we hope to see her go far on the show. And hey, she beats the heck out of the "Idol"-"AGT" crossover from last year.

Thank goodness for DVR

Yeah, I'm really not liking all of the children being put through to the finals this season. Even my 16 year old daughter commented that it is shaping up to be a little kids talent show.

@sherri - It's not really about the children or age. It's about talent. Thia clearly has the talent, maturity and confidence beyond her age. So I say, she clearly deserves to move on!

I hope they don't get too carried away with 15 year olds in the competition. Remember they have to go to school and do their homework along with all that performing every night or so. Show business is nonstop!

I think it's turning into America's Next Child Star which could be it's own show. They need to UP the age limit not lower it. These kids are not ready for this kind of fame. Let them be kids and when they are old enough they can audition.

Children can be idols, too.

Thia is under 18 but capable of going thru life as a teener and professional singer. Under the guidance of her family, I know, she will be known as another Charice...

Does she really make it to the top? she still in idol?

yes she makes it into top 24. she really does have talent. but i admit, American Idol should consider not lowering the age too much...17 or 18 seems like a reasonable age. its when voices mature and are set.

What song rings to you nowadays? 'bout sex and violence... The reasons that 15 y.olders should be idols is to inspire children of their age how to go thru life... before, we had S club and those kiddie stuff! we should have the same thing now for this generation, let kids sing their talents off... let them inspire... and let "their" dreams be reached at a young age.......
