Where's the beef? On FOX's 'Million Dollar Money Drop'

million-dollar-drop-320.jpgHow tall is LeBron James? What about Michael Phelps? Oh, and where's the beef?

A nation of game-show watchers totall cheated with Google during Monday's (Dec. 20) premiere of FOX's new game show "Million Dollar Money Drop."

Questions from the game show (hosted by comedian Kevin Pollak) lit up the Google Trends rankings late Monday night as people played along with the contestants. On-screen, teams of two were handed a million dollars in cash at the outset of the game and then asked to bet on multiple-choice trivia questions. If they placed money on a wrong answer, it literally dropped through a trap door and couldn't be recovered.

Among the questions that had people turing to the web was one about the relative heights of NBA All-Star James, Olympic champion Phelps, Indianapolis Colts QB Peyton Manning and New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez (for the record, James is the tallest at 6-foot-8; A-Rod is the shortest at 6-3).

The first contestants on the show, dating couple Gabe and Brittany, also had to know who the lead singer of U2 is (Bono) and how to punch in his name on a phone keypad (2666). They were also asked which of the following ad slogans is the oldest: "Just do it," "Melts in your mouth, not in your hands" and the aforementioned "Where's the beef?" The honor goes to "Melts in your mouth," which M&M's introduced in the 1950s.

This was easily the worst game show I've ever seen. Really, who wants to watch people LOSE money? I want to root for them and watch them WIN! Of course not everyone can win, but geesh, "lets put good, nice people on tv and watch them all lose a million dollars" - DUMB DUMB DUMB!

My kids wanted to watch this, they love game shows, and even THEY don't ever want to watch it again!

Only 7 trivia questions per hour, so the hook of this show is the waggering. Trivia junkies will still turn to Jeopardy where there are 60 trivia answers in 30 minutes, plus the final with iconic music. Congrats to FOX, as the only broadcast network with original programming this week.

My husband and I enjoyed watching it. We pretended we were playing and figured out our strategies within the time limit. We watch Jeopardy for Jeopardy like trivia, I thought this was clever.

We also liked to try to figure out the questions by the answer choices, the second Brian Williams and Jon Stewart came up I went "Who is the most trusted man in news!" can't believe they missed that!

We will keep watching, we like it for what it is!

Boring and way to many commercial interuptions

Post it notes are older than Walkman, they totally failed on this one.

I like to watch the contestants work through their logic. But I don't like the way too pregnant pauses before the drops. Show should move along more quickly.

I loved the show..the first episode was great loved the 2nd one too..i will be watching it again tonight.
and the post it notes are older but the question was...which was sold in the stores first....
My boyfriend and I played along.
needless to say he does not want me on the show I had most answers wrong.
can't wait to see tonights show
Congratualtions to Fox for providing Orginal programming.

This was pretty good. Try to watch the orignal UK version, now thats a good show.

I knew that M&M's slogan came first because it came in 1954. The other ones of course Where's the Beef? for Wendy's came in 1984 and Just Do it for Nike came in 1988. The Sony Walkman came out in 1979 and the Post it Notes came first in 1977. I did research and sure enough post it notes were first. They got robbed.

It's on again tonight on FOX after "Glee".
