'The Sing-Off's' winners, Committed, on the future: 'We're going to sing our little hearts out'

After four nights of competition on "The Sing-Off," six church boys from Huntsville, Alabama sang their way to a Season 2 win in Monday's (Dec. 20) finale.

Zap2it was at the live taping and we spoke with Committed just moments after host and executive producer, Nick Lachey, announced their win.

"We don't believe it," Committed's Alain "Tommy" Gervais tells Zap2it. "The confetti flew everywhere and we're like, 'what?' Tears. All the hard work, man. We didn't know we were going to be here, but we're here now. Thanks to him [as he points up]."

Committed took the competition by performing some of pop and R&B's greatest hits, including a rousing Usher medley on Night 3, despite the fact that they've never performed secular music before "The Sing-Off."

"A lot of people were shocked," Maurice Staple says of their winning renditions of popular music. "Because they didn't know we could pull it off. At the same time, they were very happy. They were very proud, supportive, seeing us on the stage. We have a lot of support back home."

So, how does the group explain their thoughtful renditions of the popular songs? "I think it's more of a feeling," says Theron "Terry" Thomas. "We sing in a church, you know. We naturally have that kind of just extra emotion behind what we sing. Like we mean what we're singing and portrayed [it] correctly, I believe, on TV."

Committed not only wins $100,000 for winning the a capella competition, but they also get a record deal with Sony Music. So, we asked the guys what we could expect from their future album.

"The type of songs we want to sing," Dennis "DJ" Baptiste says. "Gospel, of course, inspirational, songs with positive words, clean words and stuff like that. Love songs."

And Tommy adds, "Stuff that people can dance to in their car. Don't worry..."

In the finale, Committed got to perform with judge Shawn Stockman's iconic R&B group, Boys II Men, and Stockman passed on some advice to the up and comers.

"[Shawn Stockman] mainly told us we have to stay together as brothers," Tommy says. "We're going to fight, we're going to do all this, but don't let anything break [us] up... Don't listen to anyone else. Stay strong together, just do what we do, which is sing. We're going to sing our little hearts out and hopefully America loves us."

Watch our interview below, plus the group sings a bit of "Joy to the World":

America, how much do you love Committed already?

Very disappointing. They are so similar to other a capella groups of the past and present that they will be lost in the recording business. Take Six and Boyz2Men in particular. Street Corner Symphony was unique and had a better chance to be successful with their rock/country sound. The Sing Off was great entertainment, but that genre of music is a hard sell on the music downloading die hards. It was great to see Jerry Lawson and Talk of the Town perform and gush over the resurgence of a capella, but I doubt the American public will mainstream the genre.

I could not stand Street Corner Symphony and I was shocked when they didn't get kicked off on the first episode. An a capella group needs multiple lead singers so they can do a wide variety of music (like the Backbeats). I think quite a few good groups left too soon, and Street Corner Symphony & Jerry Lawson and Talk of the Town stayed way too long.

That finale was a huge disappointment. Not only did the wrong group win (in my opinion!) but song after song throughout the show - with the "professionals", no less!" - was out of key, cheesy, and just plain awful. Ugh. Thank goodness for DVRs and their fast forward buttons.

The only good moment of the evening was Streetcorner Symphony's version of Fix You.

I was so thrilled that they won. They are a great group! To God be the glory! And that, in my opinion, is why they won. Because they gave the glory to the one and only God.

I was sooooo excited that committed won i really love the group an think they deserve it because you really dont find young men around my age that are just very inspirational like that.I love what they stand for an think they will do great on their journey. You go Committed do your thang an ill b a great supporter of you guys hopefully ill get the chance to see yall actually perform on stage in person oneday. =)

The best group hands down. Deserved to win from the start

Loved "The Sing Off"! It was so exciting to see what talent is out there and how easy these groups can tour as they have it all: choreography, instrumentals, vocals, personality, passion, and team spirit! I loved so many of the groups for so many different reasons. Many of the groups captured their own niche of music style and did what they do very well! It's a shame more of them couldn't have won! I LOVED "Committed" and was so impressed by the complexities of their vocalizations and intonations. It left me awestruck and feeling like I'd been out there soaring... wow! I really hope they will have a long and inspiring career and keep reminding us all of how much good there is in the world and how much God's love can give us hope no matter what! I also loved "Street Corner Symphony" and felt they had a very strong stage presence particularly. They really knew how to kill the endings of the songs and leave you ready to stand and cheer. Impressive! I am sure they will also do very well in their career! Thanks to everyone who had a part in this! I watched the series three times during a TV marathon over the holidays and enjoyed it equally each time!

I was blown away by Committed from the get-go. They have the voices and the talent. I liked many of the groups this season, but Committed was my favorite from the very start. I voted for them and was so happy they won. I look forward to their album and will definitely be buying it. I'm not a big fan of gospel, but I believe I can enjoy anything they sing. They are very inspiring.
