'Supernatural': Castiel says Sam's soul is a 'mutilated thing'
When we caught up with Jared Padalecki on the set of "Supernatural" earlier this year, he told us that Sam's time in hell was worse than Dean's. "Crowley says, 'I
can't imagine what it's like in the cage, and I can imagine so
many
things,'" Padalecki said, "So we get the idea that Sam was in the
bad part of hell. He wasn't like, in the penthouse. He was slumming down
there.'"In Friday's new episode, Castiel (Misha Collins) confirms this to Dean (Jensen Ackles). Sam's soul is still stuck in that cage, and it isn't pretty in there.
"Sam's soul has been locked in the cage with Michael and Lucifer for more than a year," the angel says. "And they have nothing to do but take their frustrations out on him. If we try to force that mutilated thing down Sam's gullet, we have no idea what could happen. It could be catastrophic."
Could it be that Sam - or at least the part of Sam that's topside - is better off without his soul? Say it ain't so!
Despite the horrors that Sam's soul has endured, Dean isn't ready to give up on it. "We'll go get it back, and if there are complications, we'll figure out a way to deal with those, too," he insists.
Castiel says that if they fail, "Sam suffers horrifically." We saw the personal struggle Dean endured after just four months in hell. Will Sam's post-traumatic reaction be even worse?
This situation just keeps getting messier and messier.
What do you think, "Supernatural" fans? Is Sam better off with a clean slate? Should Dean and Castiel even bother trying to get the soul back? Do you think "RoboSam" can survive on earth without human traits like compassion and instinct?

Dean will want one day for Sam to fall in love and have the life he once had once their 'Hunting' days are over.
The brothers are always been about taking risks and this is just the same-GET SAM's SOUL BACK!
I could care less about Sam or his soul problem, move onto more interesting things already: heaven missing weapons, civil war, alpha war then once again special poor Sam.
I just don't want this to end up being a "whose time in hell was worse" scenario. Its so stupid and silly. HELL IS HELL! Dean was tortured all day every day for 30 years; sliced and mutilated as well. He's been dealing with the effects of that for 2 years. So suddenly Sam's time is worse and he's "more" wounded? Don't even go there, Supernatural. It's not fair to either character.
Too much angsty drama every episode intended to draw in high school age girls. Can't we have a thought-provoking show these days without all of that garbage? Aren't there enough angsty drama filled teen vampire shows already for that demographic??
Enough already with the Sam storyline! I'm bored to tears!
They're making it seem as though Sam's time in hell was worse than Dean's. Don't go there! It's a lame comparison and not going to deliver the dramatic goods that the writers think it will.
Please, Supernatural, can we move on to something more riveting? An entire season focused on Sam's missing soul is too much!
Wow, what a surprise! NOT! Of course Sam's time was worse. Sam must have everything Dean had, only better/worse/more because Sera is a big Samfan and she will make sure that Sam will be the only one with a story. What a waste of a great actor like Jensen, to be working for a showrunner who lets her hormones dictate her show. Jensen, if you can, get out of this mess.
I don't care about Sam's soul in hell, because Sam got Dean's story and Dean's arc and Dean was left with nothing of his own, just because Sera wants the Sam Winchester Show. Crap on this, I'm done with this loser show.
Hold up! Now that is just wrong! Sam in a way deserve the worser tratment now, because his choices. Dean hadnt done anything really, but be a brother and sacrifice him self. Sera i see is trying her best, but you cant say that she doesnt love dean too. And supernatural has been about sam and then dean always..what is so different? To say that Jensen,(who is a good actor) to get out of this (mess)????? That is like a spit in his face, he loves supernatural, yes its changed...but he stills loves it. The arch of the story has changed over and over again. He is not just going to bail because supernatural has gone back to sam, goodness! You fans are sure some fans! I want Sam' soul back, yes. But i dont want it to be like there BAM sam soul is back and what next? There is something to this i know! I am however worried about Sam being the king of hell, and him being evil. If that does happen, well then everything dean has ever done really was for nothing, and sam too! He was going to be evil anyway? So yeah, i think this is a very interesting season and i like it very much. Lets be patient and see what they have, it just be great!!
GET SAM'S SOUL BACK!!! I miss old Sam.
Oh for Christ's sake. OF COURSE SAM'S TIME IN HELL IS GOING TO BE WORSE. Dean was just in hell. Sam? is in the Cage. As in the prison where Lucifer is kept. In case nobody took that in, THAT'S THE WORST PART OF HELL. And Sam's soul has been there. For a year. going on two now, because he's been back a year. How long you think time passes in the cage? You think time in the cage might pass a little slower, what with it being the lockup for the king of Hell?
Funny these people didn't mind when Dean's time in hell storyline consumed almost all of season 4 except for the angel/demon thing. We've actually only done the Sam soul-missing thing for a few episodes. It just feels like it's been going on so long because its been very dominant in the last few episodes. We didn't know something was even really wrong with him until episode 5.
