'Skating With the Stars': Rebecca Budig wins with perfect score
It's remarkable how long 5 weeks can feel. The first -- and, let's be honest, probably the only -- season of ABC's "Skating With the Stars" came to a close on Dec. 21, crowning "All My Children" star Rebecca Budig as its champ.
It's only slightly surprising, given her domination of the competition and perfect score for her last routine, but Jonny Moseley's elimination on the eve of the finale did seem to turn the tide in runner-up Bethenny Frankel's favor.
Budig shares her handsome silver-covered skate trophy and partner Fred Palascak.
So did the right woman win? Did you even watch? And if not, why are you reading this?

Rebecca deserved to win based on talent. It was a little unfair from the get-go that she was already a good skater with a background in skating as a kid coming into the competition, while Bethenny had zero prior experience. I think what Bethenny learned to do in 5 weeks compared to someone who has skated all her life is incredible. It's so much more difficult than it looks. Still, the better woman won. But Bethenny fought hard and deserves major props for that.
You also have to remember that ABC's demo appleals well to older folks, particularly older women who watch DWTS. What else do older folks watch? Soaps. Rebecca winning is a no-brainer. Bethenny appears on Bravo, which doesn't get as many viewers aged above 49. Dancing with the Stars can have twice the amount of viewers as Glee on Tuesdays but Glee still wins the key 18-49 demo. That tells you something about the age and preferences of the ABC dancing/skating show audience.
The only reason Rebecca Budig won was because of ABC Daytime President Brian Frons more than likely fixed it for his All My Children pet Rebecca. Rebecca skates exactly like her acting on AMC stiff and nothing exciting to watch.
Rebecca was polished, but did not display any personality. Bethenny showed real star quality & heart; her skills grew every week. I think she was much more memorable, especially for the grace she showed under distressing judging prejudice. What a trooper!
I did not watch, but from the few seconds of the first episode I saw, I knew that she would win. And it's a short article that's why I read this.
No, I didn't watch the show. I read the article for the snark.
The 'Tea Party' supported Bethany or she never would have made it to the finale. Think they jammed the phone lines in Montana.
Hey there KOTH. I'm an older person and I have NEVER watched soaps. Do you think older people have stopped living and have no interests or ambitions?? Most "seniors" work out of the home, in the home, but none of them that I know watch "soaps". That's what brain dead people do. Seniors are intelligent and continue to contribute much more to the economy and the country then they are ever given credit for. I'll bet you could tell us all about the soaps and what happens on soap TV. We seniors have better fish to fry. We like exciting, not dull and boring.
no, i didn't watch the show but i clicked on this because i wanted to make sure Bethenny didn't win.
I think Jonny and Brooke should have won personally. Having Rebecca and Jonny competing for the title would have been a real competition. I was not happy Monday night! With that said, I sure hope for another season, I love figure skating and my 3 yr old wants to try it sometime because of this show.
