Mandy Patinkin joins Showtime's 'Homeland,' AMC greenlights 'Hell on Wheels'

Mandy Patinkin has been cast on Showtime's hour-long drama pilot "Homeland" as Saul, "a veteran CIA Division Chief," who is the boss and mentor of Claire Danes' character Carrie. This is Patinkin's first television appearance since starring on "Criminal Minds." He won an Emmy for his performance on "Chicago Hope." "Homeland" centers on an "American soldier taken prisoner during the invasion or Iraq in 2003. Left for dead, the soldier miraculously returns to the U.S. after years in captivity."
AMC announced they have green-lighted "Hell On Wheels," a series that focuses on a Confederate soldier on a quest to avenge his wife's death after the Civil War. His journey takes him west where he works on building the first transcontinental railroad. Anson Mount stars as the confederate soldier Cullen Bohannan. The network's senior vice president of original programming Joel Stillerman says, "We are thrilled to bring "Hell on Wheels" to series. The show has some incredibly original twists and turns and a contemporary sensibility that we think we bring a very broad audience to our newest drama series." [TV Guide]
"The War at Home" and "The Mountain" star Kaylee Defer will join The CW's "Gossip Girl" later this season as a recurring character. Her role is being kept top secret. [Deadline]
Showtime has ordered a second season of their comedy series "The Green Room With Paul Provenza." Ray Romano, Kathy Griffin, Margaret Cho, Tommy Chong, Lewis Black, Ron White, Joe Rogan and Judd Apatow have all signed on to appear in the six-episode second season, which will begin filming in January and will premiere later this year.

Mandy Patinkin bailed out of Chicago Hope and Criminal Minds. I hope they have an iron clad contract with him.
Don't forget he bailed out of Dead Like Me as well.
Re:Milhouse. That is incorrect. He didn't bail out of Dead Like Me. He stayed with the show until it was cancelled, and by the time the reunion film was made, he was already involved with another TV series (Criminal Minds).
Yeah, he didn't bail on Dead Like Me. They did a storyline in season 2 to have him go looking for his daughter so he could do his CANCER treatments... and they explained that he was just "away" at the breakfast table. He was back by the end of the seasons episodes.
