'How I Met Your Mother': Eric Braeden out, Ray Wise in for Robin's dad
In a rare instance of drama for the happy-go-lucky series, "How I Met Your Mother" apparently had to do some last minute recasting when "The Young and the Restless" star Eric Braeden backed out of his upcoming cameo as Robin's (Cobie Smulders) dad.
Braden, who previously played Robin Scherbatsky Sr. in a 2008 episode, apparently wasn't pleased with the material for his second go around -- at least according to some inflammatory tweets from "HIMYM" star Neil Patrick Harris.
"Eric Braeden is a D-Bag," writes Harris on Dec. 17. "The actor, (Robin's dad) agreed to a cameo, then last night bailed, saying the part wasn't 'substantial' enough."
Ouch. Fortunately for the show, similar looking and infinitely more familiar actor Ray Wise ("Reaper") has stepped up to the plate.
"We've recast with Ray Wise, a fantastic actor who makes any part 'substantial'," Harris also tweets. "Super excited to welcome him to the family!"
A regrettable turn, yes. But knowing "HIMYM's" penchant for meta-marketing, we'll all probably be unwrapping "Eric Braeden is a D-Bag" t-shirts on Christmas morning.

Braeden is a d-bag---Y & R should let him go and get a new star to play his part---he's got way too much attitude!
It's been known for a lonnng time, that Braeden is a d-bag. He's had on-set scuffles with fellow actors, and when he left briefly last year over pay demands, many media outlets reported that the rest of the Y&R cast was overjoyed. Too bad his behavior continues to be rewarded by a bigger paycheck. They should have recast Victor years ago.
Ray Wise rules. this is the best news. i wish they expanded his role to where he was a semi-regular character.
Braden is right, the shows material is weak; a good premise poorly executed. Besides the real D-Bag is anyone who watches the show.
Wow, doesn't anyone else think NPH was extremely unprofessional?
He has since (somewhat) apologized for his comment via yet another tweet, not that it makes any difference.
Eric Braeden deserves to be a diva; if it weren't for him, YnR would go down the crapper ratings-wise and the so-called "overjoyed" cast members would be out flipping burgers soon afterwards...
As for NPH calling him a "d-bag", only a dbag would go on Twitter and cry and whine about backstage antics like a little baby. Braeden didn't want to do your crappy show; get over it, lol...
hes a Soap star thats complaining about the material? LMAO what an idiot. The owarst script in the world is better than anything he's done being on TYATR. D-bag? No, I hate that word he's just an idiot.
@ Mark
Agreed, major D-Bag!
Ray Wise is a great actor, he should be fine. To bad Braeden is a D-Bag.
Eric B is a D-Bag, but it takes one to know one. NPH is the biggest d-bag, not just because his lame character took over the show, but because no one can act that toolish, and not actually be a tool! Neil needs to grow up and act professional, instead of becoming his character from the show and tweeting improperly. Maybe if the show wasn't written continuously for 11 yr olds, they would have better things to do than meta market stupid catch phrases, and actually write an actual story. It's safe to say, Neil's life is indeed imitating his "art" his husband better watch out, he takes this douche roll too seriously.
