'Glee' holiday songs: 'Baby It's Cold Outside,' 'Last Christmas' are our faves

"Glee" has done an admirable job of cutting down the number of songs per episode this season, but those rules don't apply to the "A Very Glee Christmas" episode.

Frankly, we can tell that there were attempts to make this a holiday classic, so we're alright with that, but we're surprised they didn't try for a  two-hour "Glee" (yikes!) just so they could get all the songs from the album in. As it is, we're missing "Deck the Rooftop," "The Most Wonderful Day of the Year," "God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman," "O Christmas Tree," "Jingle Bells," "Angels We Have Heard on High" and "O Holy Night."

Hands down our favorite from the holiday episode is still "Baby It's Cold Outside." It's one of the best winter songs, and Chris Colfer and Darren Criss really have the playful chemistry that's essential for this song. Our runners-up would have to be "Welcome Christmas" because its ridiculously joyful and "Last Christmas" because Wham just rocks.

Let's go through each song:

"Island of Misfit Toys" - From the "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" stop animation classic. We love the concept of the misfit toys eventually finding a home. It's a fun song, but we like it better in context:



"We Need a Little Christmas" - Okay, Mercedes & Co. got cut short there. How rude is that teacher to throw her shoe? We bring to you Angela Landsbury singing the holiday classic because nothing says Yule Tide like "Murder, She Wrote."



"Merry Christmas, Darling" - Surprise, a Rachel solo in which she looks pained. She has a great voice, but considering the storyline, we just don't feel like wallowing in her bed of misery.



"Baby It's Cold Outside" - Really. Does it get any better? As a bonus, we included a clip from "Neptune's Daughter," which won a best song Oscar for "Baby." What we love about this is it shows Betty Garret on the make, trying to compromise Red Skelton, flipping the usual wolf-mouse formula that Esther Williams and Ricardo Montalban performed earlier in the film.





"Last Christmas" - Great song, and we like how this one worked contextually with the Rachel-Finn story. The original Wham video and those '80s fashions are all the gifts we could ask for.



"You're a Mean One Mr. Grinch" - From "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" TV special, this song works the best when sung by Thurl Ravenscroft. Fun fact: He was also the voice of Tony the Tiger, shill cat for Frosted Flakes.



"Welcome Christmas" - We challenge anyone to listen to this Whoville classic and not feel good.
