Enjoy these snack-sized bites of TV news -- it's the holidays, after all.In the category of fastest rumor-squashing, Simon Cowell has knocked down speculation that George Michael will be a judge on "The X Factor" on FOX next fall. It's a bad time to be a spinoff at Syfy. The cable channel has decided not to renew "Stargate Universe" for a third season; the 10 episodes scheduled to air in the spring will be the show's last. [Deadline]
A pair of "Smallville" episodes ("Shield" and "Abandoned") are among the TV nominees for the American Society of Cinematographers 25th annual Outstanding Achievement Awards. The other series nominees are "Dark Blue" (episode "Shell Game"), "Boardwalk Empire" ("Home" and "Family Limitation"), "Mad Men" ("Blowing Smoke") and "Nikita" ("Pilot"); the TV movie/miniseries nominees are "Jesse Stone: No Remorse," "Part 2" of Syfy's "Alice" and the "Okinawa" episode of "The Pacific." First The Hoff, now The Donald. Comedy Central says its next celebrity roast target will be Donald Trump; the special will tape on March 9 in New York and air sometime in the spring. [Comedy Central]
Ex-Beatle Paul McCartney can still bring viewers to television. Last weekend's "Saturday Night Live," featuring host Paul Rudd and McCartney as musical guest, drew the show's biggest audience (7.6 million) and adults 18-49 rating (2.7) of the season. [NBC]
NKOTBSB -- that'd be New Kids on the Block and the Backstreet Boys -- will be part of ABC's "New Year's Rockin' Eve" telecast. The no-longer-boy bands, who are touring together, join Taio Cruz and Ke$ha in the lineup of performers in New York's Times Square. [ABC]
NBC's genealogy series "Who Do You Think You Are?" has announced its lineup of celebrities for Season 2, which premieres Feb. 4. The stars tracing their heritage are Gwyneth Paltrow, Vanessa Williams, Rosie O'Donnell, Steve Buscemi, Tim McGraw, Kim Cattrall, Lionel Richie and Ashley Judd. [NBC]

Stargate universe is consistently brill, I am getting a little tired of the stupid American theory, that if it is not selling ads its a no go, there are means to expand, I have those tools here in Ireland .I love this show and so do many others, its very enjoyable and sells well overseas. I am a innovative business specialist and can see a good thing a million miles away. Come on, this show is really good, some one is not doing there job right. There is Hugh potential here, get back!
just great! another good program like "Stargate Universe" cancelled. just great. They never give a program a chance for people to learn about a show. Remember the original 'Star Trek'. People didn't catch with that show at the beginning. I hate TV Executives with no vision.
I just read about all the Emmy's that 'Stargate Universe' was nominated. What do you have to do to not be cancelled? Win an Oscar? Maybe the Executives cancelling the show are not doing their job to promote this show. Maybe they should be fired and a Sci-Fi person be hired instead. This is an excellent show. The stories are awesome. I had my doubts before the show was aired for the first time because I read a few critics. They were wrong. I'm sure the show will do great around the World, not only in the U.S.. If the show doesn't do as well as they want in the U.S., don't forget that around the World people love Science Fiction.
I have watched every Stargate series released since the original Kurt Russel movie. I think the show is great & for SyFy to cancel it is an outrage... I mean seriously they air WWE: Smackdown on the SyFy channel... which is in no way related to Science Fiction... Fiction maybe, cause we all know that WWE is as fake as they come, but to cancel a show that really is Science fiction. A show that keeps its viewers saying what if?
this program can expand in many directions.sify stargate universe needs to shift to more battle scenes , finding new planets which are accupied with life forms. Look at new forms of life.bla bla
I can not believe they would ruin a good sy fy series like SGU and put garbage like wwe on granted the show could have had a little more action, but the story line was good and dark, and had many directions it could expanded into,it's like Jerico, great shows and people with no vision behind them, and just cancel it,SG has had a large following from the start.
I'm American and I'm just as sick as others of the US canceling quality programming. I have to say, I've talked to other Americans and a lot of them don't like this show. "It's too serious, too complex" I feel we've been dumbed-down as a country to where we can't enjoy anything unless there are *****, stupid jokes, or flying blood so we can go "ooh" and "aah". SGU is exactly the kind of show I've been waiting for. I guess I can stop waiting because the only thing I'll have to watch is another cheap reality show.
Since the frist Stargate ran, they were always on Friday nights, the person(s) that moved SGU to Tuesday Night should be cancelled, not SGU. And move SGU back to Friday night!!!!!

Well watched the final episode of SGU,and am so disgusted that I got hooked into a show that could not even provide an ending, there were so many chances to expand this series with more detail, like more explanation in the beginning like the how and why they aquired their ship and why they embarked on the journey and what they were hoping to find and the Lucian Alliance who they were, why they hated humans and were about to do battle with earth, the aliens and how and why they fit into the story more detail on obductions, more detail of the ancestors story and what happined to them and why, what the attacking mother ship and the drones agenda was and who built them and why they were out to destroy other ships, and more about destany and it`s capabilitys which they barley scratched the surface on,this show still has so much potential, and to cancel it without even an ending is totally unacceptable,is sy fy doing so bad finantually that they can`t even keep a series going, and have to rely on lame wwe to support them. When they changed names they advertised that they were going to expand their format with main stream movies, well I am yet to see that.I am disabled and TV is my only entertainment, and is on SY FY channel 80% of the time, and I hate weekly series programs as a rule, but SGU was an exception,so please try to put a decent ending to this series!
