Eric Braeden responds to NPH's 'How I Met Your Mother' tweets

"The Young and Restless" star Eric Braeden is less than pleased with Neil Patrick Harris' tweet heard around the Internet on Dec. 17. You know the one, where NPH called Braeden out for bailing on his "How I Met Your Mother" cameo, saying "Eric Braeden is a D-Bag. The actor, (Robin's dad) agreed to do a cameo, then last night bailed, saying the part wasn't 'substantial' enough."

Braeden spoke with Entertainment Weekly about the messy debacle and really did himself no favors. "I really don't know who that fellow is. He's a guy who stars in that series," he says. Um, a series you guest-starred on in 2008. Even though you had no scenes with him, we're pretty sure you've heard of NPH, dude. Come on.

Braeden says Harris' "choice of words" bothered him and then said, "It seems to me like a young whippersnapper, having seen himself on a few covers, who's receiving a few awards, is now suddenly suffering from the first signs of hubris." Oh, no he didn't. Oh yes, he did... and then some. "If he is a worthy adversary, he'd better not cross my path."

Hopefully, it won't come to fisticuffs if they ever do cross paths because Braeden just came back from hip surgery, which is one of the reasons he gives for not appearing on "HIMYM." "It's very unfortunate. First of all, I came back from hip surgery. I was off for three weeks," he explains. "I've doubled my work, 30-50 pages a day for me, alone. Everyone knows that I'm exhausted."

And what about the role not being "substantial" enough for him? "I was not about to appear on a show for two lines, because that's what it amounted to."

At the very least, Braeden says he enjoyed his first, and obviously last, appearance on the show. "I truly enjoyed working there last time. The cast and crew and producers couldn't have been nicer."

Harris probably didn't realize quite the stir his tweet would cause because three hours after posting the "D-Bag" comment, he tweeted, "Now I feel bad for the D-bag comment. Don't know the guy personally. I'm just fiercely protective of our show."

Yeah, well, sounds like NPH called it correctly. And we've all wished we'd made better word choices before. As for Braeden, it's incredible that the part he deems insubstantial would make other actors' dreams come true. He comes off quite pompous.

Eric Braeden is definitely a d-bag. His huge ego far outweighs his talent and star power.

NPH was correct Braeden IS a D-bag. Braeden needs a reality check.

I'm glad NPH feels bad. What he said is unprofessional. Obviously, EB meant "substantial" in that it was only two lines and he doesn't have the time to do it, considering his rigorous schedule and recent surgery. Everyone is making a bigger deal than necessary- he cited his reasons for not being able to do it. End of story.

Whatever Braeden's motives were it was highly unprofessional of NPH to take it public like that. What purpose does the name-calling serve?

He put alot of people thru hell by canceling the day before. Very Unprofessional.

He was complaining about being exhausted b/c he just came back from hip surgery, but yet he's essentially saying the workload wasn't big enough for him. What would they have paid him? $25k? $50k? $100k? to appear in the show and all he had to say was two lines?! Sounds to me like someone thinks HIMYM (which is a hit in it's own right; 8-10 million viewers a week) is below him. Good for NPH! Call the douche bag out!

Come on,it's freaking Victor Newman. He can do whatever the heck he wants. NPH, GET OVER IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@Jeremy: exactly! Mr. Soap Opera Actor thinks himself too important. And Braeden saying he doesn't know who NPH is has to be a lie. He's been famous for decades. He's Doogie freakin' Howser, for goodness sake.

This isn't the first time Braeden has said some idiotic and self-centered things. I'd say his reality check bounced a long time ago.

nph sucks anyway, and has a huge ego.nph thinks he's funny and talented but he is not.nph is a GIANT DOUCHE-BAG!! so move on people!!
