'Bones' Emily Deschanel: Brennan 'made a mistake' turning Booth down
For anyone who's seen promos for the Dec. 9 episode of "Bones," it's clear that "The Doctor in the Photo" is quite a departure for the series.
Told entirely from the Brennan's (Emily Deschanel) perspective, it weaves a Hitchcockian maze that seems to find Brennan racing to solve her own murder once she starts to identify with a set of bones.
A noted cardiologist, the victim shares Brennan's career focus and lack of romantic and personal connections, so when she disappeared, no one noticed she was gone.
"Isn't that almost every human's worst fear -- dying and no one misses you, no one notices?" Deschanel tells the press of her big episode. "This affects Brennan greatly, and she starts relating to the character, believing it's her. She starts seeing her own life and seeing that she made a mistake when she said no to Booth (David Boreanaz) last year."
All of this culminates in a tearful confession to Booth, which, with all due objectivity, makes his 100th episode romantic ovation seem tepid.
"It forces Brennan into a place where she's bold and aware of her feelings in a way she hasn't been before," says Deschanel. And to go to that place, she had to let the waterworks loose. That's a kind of emotion Deschanel really hasn't had to call upon in her six seasons of playing Brennan."
"That was one of those scenes where you know [it's] there and you prepare for it, and then you're like, 'It's OK if i don't cry, I don't have to cry,'" she explains, "But walking in, everyone is expecting that. There's a lot of pressure with that."
Pressure she apparently didn't let get the best of her.
Now, there's no way to address the outcome of this scene without giving it all away, but its quite clear that her confession to Booth isn't met the way many fans would probably like it to. "Brennan took that chance, and whether or not it worked out, doesn't matter as much as the fact that she did take that chance," she says. "I think it is a happy ending in that way."
As for how the ending helps Brennan reconcile any feelings, Deschanel is already seeing her character's reaction in future scripts. "It may not be the reaction people want, but she rarely is predictable in that way," says Deschanel. "My favorite thing about people is that they have contradictions. And Brennan is no exception to that rule. I love exploring the contradictions of her character."

So...basically Booth turns her down. Yawn. As much as I want them together this back and forth crap has gotten old.
There really is no point watching anymore of this season is there?
Booth proposes to Hannah in 4 episodes time. Yeah, I think we can say he turns Bones down.
Well, I think it's basically the same ED interview that's been doing the rounds since late last week, but put together slightly differently. Can't tell if O'Connell actually saw the episode either.
I don't know what's going to happen, but if she does tell him and he says no (explicitly or by implication, I don't care which) then the circle will be complete and they will have missed all the opportunities of being together. I just don't see them getting together without a disproportionate amount of soap opera characterisation. And no, that wouldn't increase my respect for the writers or the characters.
Pity. It used to be a really good show.
Well, it's not like Brennan hasn't turned him down last year. She most certainly did it to him. What goes around comes around.......
Bones is so predictable now. It's sad. I'm still waiting for a better season. Fail on my part. When something is THIS bad, it's not going to change with the next episode. Emily has been the saving grace this season for me. Her acting has been brillant. Second to none. The rest is just crap. Can't even say I enjoy the squnits or the cases because the Squints has been marginalized due to HANNAH!! And the cases just suck. You can figure everything out in the first 10 minutes!
I think its finally time to shop hoping they will get better... not going to happen. They turned Booth into a little B****. I can see his vagina from here.
So sad what has become of this show...
I will be tuning in only in support for Emily Deschanel and then promptly tuning out for the rest of the season. I'm on a Bones strike until/IF they bring the show back to it's previous glory and added bonus get rid of the dead weight (i.e- KW/ Hannah FAILArc).
Back in the day - seasons 1-5 of Bones - nothing and no one would've prevented me from watching an ED-centered episode.
Times have changed - and so has this fan. I stopped watching the "Booth and his Babe" show two weeks ago and don't miss it.
Sadly, I'm no longer interested even in watching ED. I love her, but what the showrunner's done to her character (and her) has been brutal. Brennan will have a melt-down, tell Booth she made a mistake, and Booth will reject her. In a few months, Booth will proposed to Hannah and they will marry in the season finale.
Big whoop! This series' writers not only jumped the shark, they jumped off a bridge.
I've said it before, it's Hart story. Shame that he nor his writters have cared about the viewers. I've watched the ratings over the past year. Since it peaked around 12 million total and about 2.9 in the 18 - 49 demo it's been going down slowly but surely. No two year commitment from FOX either. Do you think they're interestd in the message being sent by the viewers?
I wish I could understand why the writers are imploding the show this year. It is indeed such a pity. I do still love the main characters but the cases/villains are totally unmemorable this season, and -- Hannah. Where are they going with all this? And why do they think anyone wants to watch this happen to these beloved TV characters?
i cant wait
