'American Idol' Auditions: Sorry Simon, you are no longer missed
"We're here 'cause we're not all there," says new judge Steven Tyler in the 23 minute audition footage Fox released from season 10 of "American Idol." Trust us when we say we are so glad Tyler and fellow newbie Jennifer Lopez are there. Fans expecting the show to suffer without Simon Cowell, fret not. Tyler and Lopez bring a fresh and fun energy to the judging table and even returning judge Randy Jackson appears totally reinvigorated.
So what can you expect from the new judges? Lopez brings a whole lot of look.... and she's never looked better. With a new hairstyle and make-up at each audition, Lopez looks stunning, even as she sheds a tear or two when she is moved by contestants. She also seems to be thoroughly entertained by Tyler, who will without a doubt be the talk of "Idol."
Tyler is kind of cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs and we love it. He often starts singing along with the contestants or dances around in his seat with eyes closed. After one hopeful blows him away, Tyler exclaims, "f-ck a duck!" and then adds, "Am I allowed to say that?" Lopez then quips, "Loop it to say 'suck a duck'?" Seriously, it's awesome.
We also like to think of this as Tyler's campaign to land his own version of "Rock of Love," as he flirts with one contestant who sings Aerosmith's "Dream On."

i haven't watch american idol steadily for the past couple of seasons - i used to be glued every week - i'm looking forward to watching this season, at least in the beginning to see how it has changed (hopefully for the better) - i think they were good choices for the new judges - as long as they're not fake - and hopefully some extraordinary talent will get through
I don't want "fresh, fun energy" - I want SIMON!!!! He IS missed; Idol is now WORTHLESS without him. I REFUSE to accept these two useless stunt casters, or anyone else, in his place, and I refuse to watch Idol as long as Simon is no longer on it. Simon is a one-of-a-kind treasure that no rock legend or popstar can even hope to acceptably replace. Simon WAS the show; viewers waited on the edge of their seats to hear what he had to say, and contestants valued his opinion more than anyone else's. All of the magic, all of the excitement, all of the spice, all of the intrigue of the show went out the door with Simon. How dare you throw him under the bus by saying that these two pathetic celebrity seat fillers are doing so well that Simon is no longer needed. I hope this piece of trash being passed off as American Idol gets pulled in the middle of the season.
Actually thought since the announcement that Tyler would be a judge, that would be the one reason to watch. If his F**k a duck is any indication, it should be a riot. Does Idol have delayed response?? They might need one this year--even though most of us can lip read.
CracklinRosie, how do you know he is missed until they air the show. Give it a chance!
Sorry, Mel, I refuse to give it a chance. Simon means too much to me to accept anyone else in his place, or his absence in general. He's what made the show exciting for me, what made it more than just another TV show. Now it's just that. So, there's no reason to give it a chance. I won't give trash a chance where there used to be treasure.
Lopez and Tyler will be great together they are both fun energetic people. Sometimes "change" is good except for 2008.
Maybe they would be great together on another show, but not on American Idol. That is Simon, Paula, and Randy's turf ONLY. Change in this case is not good, and was only necessary because the two defining, most popular judges chose to leave the show. As soon as Simon left, Fox should have pulled the plug. On to X Factor; let Idol just wither and die in the absence of its life blood.
Sorry but Simon was the only reason I watched Idol last year and the show was horrible. After Paula left, there was only Simon to look forward to. Now that they are both gone, I have no interest. JLo and Steven Tyler are so passe. Who really cares?
Simon was obviously bored last year and the show suffered for it. He is not the star, the contestants are. All the judges talked too much. Also, please let viewers know when the singers have limited song choices. Poor song choice is not a valid critique when the selection is limited. But, poor performance is open to comment.
Simon was bored last season because Paula, his number one foil and the one who always brought out his fun, playful side, was gone. It angers me when anyone says that Simon was past his prime and needed to be replaced. He has a whole new series coming to Fox in 2011, and he is going to blow Idol and Steven Tyler clear off the planet. The contestants are never the stars; the judges are, especially Simon. That is what makes the format that HE helped to create different from your grandfather's TV talent search.
