Women of SNL: Favorite moments and characters through 36 seasons of funny women

snl-gilda-radnor.pngGirl power ruled on NBC's "Women of SNL" special on Monday night (Nov 1) as our favorite "Saturday Night Live" ladies reunited to remember their finest moments over the last 36 seasons of "Saturday Night Live."

The evening kicked off with a "Real Housewives" spoof, with Bravo's Andy Cohen leading Maya Rudolph, Kristen Wiig, Rachel Dratch, Molly Shannon, Cheri Oteri, Ana Gasteyer, and Tina Fey in a reunion-style catfight.

In addition to the new material, we got to watch some of the best-ever "Saturday Night Live" bits, including the "Debbie Downer" sketch with Dratch and Lindsay Lohan, where every single actor in the scene broke character, cracking up as Debbie moaned about her melanoma.

We also revisited Betty White's "Muffin" NPR skit, Amy Poehler's pregnant "No Angel" perfume ad, and, of course, Fey's now-legendary first appearance as Sarah Palin.

The special also featured appearances by Jane Curtin, Jan Hooks, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

Of course, a "Women of SNL" special wouldn't be complete without a look back at the magnificent work done by Gilda Radner, who passed away in 1989. Radner's Lisa Loopner, Baba Wawa, Emily Litella, and Roseanne Roseannadanna characters are some of the most iconic in "SNL" history.

That opening bit was pure torture. Reminded me why I don't watch and don't miss, SNL. The ladies got a lot funnier, though, as the show went along. Good for them.

I loved the show, but thought there was way too many skits with Kristin Wiig. Yes, she's great, but we can see her each week. I wanted to see more of Jan Hooks, Nora Dunn, Molly Shannon, and Cheri Oteri. And where was Victoria Jackson and Ellen Cleghorn? (I don't recall seeing any black women on last night's show)?

There was no one quite like Gilda. She's still missed, especially when you see the catch the old episodes of SNL.

The woman who closely resembels Lucille Ball's style of comedy is the Late Great Gilda Radner . She was the next lucy and an incredibly talented comedian actress and song writer.

I agree. Where was Ellen Cleghorne? She always made me laugh out loud.

Not enough JAN HOOKS - she ROCKS!

too many skits from the past 5 years.

Please do a Best of Gilda Radner! The Monday night show was excellent!

I watched this and found myself laughing out loud when there was a charades skit about a woman avoiding a phone call. I was only half watching it but it got funnier and funnier and I think it might have been a Baldwin bro on the phone. It was a charades skit where the woman played out her avoidance and the man (baldwin?) interpreted her charades to the person at the end of the line. Supposedly she was in hawaii then found out the person on phone was in Hawaii.
Anyone know who were the two in the skit?
