'Vampire Diaries' vs. 'Supernatural': TV Debate Club Smackdown

spn-tvd-stefan-sam-lg.jpgIf there's anything Tierney and I (Carina) love more than television, it's arguing about television. (Seriously, you should hear us fight about Rory Gilmore's boyfriends. We can go all night -- and Tierney will still be wrong about Dean in the morning.)

Hot brothers. Bad intentions. Evil forces lurking in the dark. Occasional shirtless flexing. "The Vampire Diaries" and "Supernatural," our two favorite shows on The CW, have enough common threads to get tangled in.

We decided to take our battle to Zap2it, Debate Club style. We're pitting the Salvatores and the Winchesters (and their entourages, soundtracks, and cars) against each other in the ultimate showdown. Each of us will argue a side -- whether we agree with it or not. In the end, only one show can come out victorious.

Click here to see the fight. (And hot pictures of beautiful people.
)

Please note: We really, really love both shows, so please don't storm our offices with tar and feathers and pitchforks and rock salt and vervain, okay? We're looking at you, Samgirls and Deangirls and Delenas and Stelenas. Keep calm and carry on. Or whatever.

Let us know what you think in the comments below, and don't forget to watch "The Vampire Diaries" on Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET, and "Supernatural" at 9 p.m. on Fridays. (On The CW, obviously.)

'Ab-off' needs to be the first SPN/TVD crossover episode. Plot: Sam and Stefan take off their shirts. The End.
Why did you pick Lucifer? Supernatural's ultimate villain is Alistair. I can't believe you said TVD's soundtrack is better than Supernatural. Sure, TVD plays more songs per episode but Supernatural's songs have more value, they got two fantastic composers Lennertz and Gruska for the score, they got the Ghostfacers theme song, the Sitcom song and many awesome rock songs over the years.
Elena clearly wins in the female character department but TVD has also the better developed minor characters and they got a lot in comparison to Supernatural.

Absolutely AMAZING! You two took my two favourite shows and managed to pit them against each other without me getting extremely angry! haha The only thing I would change if I made this was possibly faavourite werewolf. Only because that episode was a HUGE one for Sam and Padalecki killed it crying over her. But I guess that's not really about the werewolf, it's more the impact of the episode haha Also the music one, because supernatural music is such a genre thing, whereas I barely notice Vampire Diaries music, they could be playing anything. Even though I know the songs are good. But if we picked most interesting plot line? VAMPIRE DIARIES FOR SURE!! Loved the little bit of text about Jenna Tierney, made me laugh!

I disagreed with some of your picks (I thought the Dead mother daughter duo should have gone to Pearl and Anna...they were badass and so lovable at the same time, and I thought most compelling torture scene should have also gone to TVD) but its all for fun and it was hilarious to read!! :)
Great job both of you!!

Only change would have been Lilith vs. Katherine. Otherwise, brava!

Love This Battle!
Although I Disagreed On Some Of The Individual Battles;
Supernatural Takes It.
Still Love TVD And Couldn't Go W/o Seeing Damon Every Week.:)
Also, Anyone Else Find It Weird That The Sets Of Brothers First Letters Are The Same?!
Sam And Dean And
Stefan And Damon?
Hmm..

WHA..??? Damon over Dean??

The best soundtrack goes to TVD and not Supernatural??

Blasphemy.

Those were my only disagreement really. Great debate and a good read! And rightful props to Ellen and Jo! And Bobby!

The article almost makes me want to give Vampire Diaries a try. (C'mon though... it's called *Diaries*)(and it came on the heels of Twilight popularity...) Still, this article perked my interest in that TVD has so much in common with SPN. I never knew!

Great job guys. :)

This was an excellent slide show, I clicked through every slide and laughed at all the commentary. Very entertaining! thanks!

I'm an SPN fan but now I think I will have to watch Vampire Diaries too.

How tragic that SPN has lost its music mojo. They have stopped using classic rock in most episodes. I read somewhere that it was a budget problem. I first began watching the show for the cool music and cool car.

can't they all just get along. i refuse to be forced to choose between them.

Completely invalidated because you chose that other guy over Castiel, who is flawless and amazing!

Something you both forgot. Favorite (laugh) line. I reefer to the first season in which Misha Collins joined the cast, as the angel, Castielle. It may have been the episode "Heaven and Hell" (Part 1 & 2), but I loved Deans line when, trying to figure out if angels, or demons, were behind an act, Dean comes up with the line: So, who do we call, angels or demons? I really enjoyed the story archs, where viewers were, often, left wondering if angels, or demons, were responsible for destruction. Remember the episode where Sam and Dean spend most of the show trying to track down a demon, who they think destroyed a town, yet it turned out to be Ghabrielle ( I think), as the angel of Wrath/Vengence. He was played by the bald, black, actor, whose answer for every problem was "Smyte them!" How many times has Castielle had to hold angels back, from doing even more damage than the demons?
