TV ratings: 'Bones,' 'Grey's' rise but CBS still tops Thursday

Ratings were generally up Thursday night as a number of shows, including "Grey's Anatomy," "Bones," "CSI" and "The Mentalist," posted gains over last week. The usual order of things didn't change any, however, which meant CBS ended the night in first place.

CBS scored 13.5 million viewers and an 8.2 rating/14 share in households for the night, an improvement of about 800,000 viewers over last week. ABC (9 million, 5.7/9) was also up. FOX came in third with 7.2 million viewers and a 4.4/7, beating NBC (4.9 million, 3.0/5) by a healthy margin. The CW averaged 3.2 million viewers and a 2.0/3, but those numbers are inflated some because affiliates in Chicago and Miami aired an NFL game.

CBS' lead in the adults 18-49 demographic was much smaller. It earned a 3.3 rating, narrowly beating ABC's 3.1. FOX, 2.3, edged NBC, 2.2, for third place, while The CW came in at 1.1.

CBS does it again as usual. ABC and NBC should just bow down to the altar on Thursday nights. The CBS line up for Thursday nights is prehaps the greatest 3 hours in TV history.

I thought Community was hilarious at first but now I think I would rather see Parks and Recreation in that time slot. Outsourced is now starting to stick on me. 30 Rock can be hit or miss. Office will always be a win but thats because I'm so invested in the characters. The storylines themselves not too funny lately. I always look forward to NBC Thursdays. How are they not killing in the 18-49 bracket?

Because NBC shows, all of them suck.

Whatev Charlie. The only thing decent on the CBS sched is Big Bang, the rest suck. CSI needs to just fade away and die. Mentalist is a one-trick pony and appeals to the geriatric crowd and William Shatner is not funny. Look back at some of NBC's Thursday night lineup such as Cosby and ER and tell me again about the greatest 3 hours in TV history. Hardly.

Community is free falling. I love the show, it is so dumb and it knows it, but it's good! Outsourced is great too. Office is really slipping....might need to start thinking of winding it down!

Horatio, you are living in your own little bubble. NBC is in so bad of shape, their stock is falling like a rock, they are selling out to Comcast becuae they have no money, and here is you saying they have good TV. I assume that when nobody watches NBC, in your world this is good. In the real world NBC sucks worse even that ABC.

It saddens me that the two funniest shows on broadcast TV, Community and 30 Rock, are two of the lowest rated shows on Thursday nights.

Community, in particular, has reinvented the network sitcom--fantastic ensemble cast, wildly original plots, daring conceits (like the upcoming stop-motion animation Christmas episode). Everyone I know who watches the show LOVES it. It's truly brilliant.

No accounting for taste, I guess.

Quick Question - How is the Big Bang Theory being watched more then Community? Heck, why isn't Bones being watched more then the Big Bang Theory.

Charles, please say you are kidding about the current CBS Thurs line-up. Yes the ratings are strong, but quality wise, not so. The silly sitcom that follows BBT is probably the worst on tv today. CSI while once very original is now just one of the myriad procedurals on CBS including Mentalist. Please look back at tv history to see true quality line-ups.

All right you youngsters. I'll tell you what was the greatest 3 hours of TV. It was in the 70's on Saturday night on CBS.
