'The Vampire Diaries' sneak peek: Master plans and meaningful looks

After a brief (or excruciatingly long... whatever) hiatus, "The Vampire Diaries" returns this Thursday, Dec. 3, with a vengeance. Specifically, Klaus's. Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Stefan (Paul Wesley) come up with a plan to break the spell cast over vampires and werewolves so that Elena (Nina Dobrev) is no longer an essential part of Klaus's diabolical scheme. "Ergo, you live," Damon quips.
There are a few things that stand out to us about this clip.
One: Why is Bonnie agreeing to open the tomb up? Of course Elena is her best friend, but this is a spell that actually killed her seasoned, practiced grandmother. Wouldn't she demand they find another way?
Two: Katherine is starved for blood. They'd better have a damn good method of keeping her in that tomb because once Bonnie breaks the spell, she basically turns into a juicy steak on a plate. With Katherine's vervain tolerance, almost nothing will be able to stop her from tearing a piece out of Bonnie and any other living person in that tomb.
Three: Elena is probably right. Klaus has been alive a thousand years -- if he's got anything, he's got time on his hands. He'll be perfectly content to come whirling through Mystic Falls, killing off every person who had a hand in messing up his plan... and maybe a few extra for good measure.
Four: Okay, let's talk about that look Elena gives Damon when she says, "Everyone that I care about, including the two of you." Elena is pointedly making sure Damon knows that she cares about him again, Damon is stunned by it, and Stefan goes on talking like there are no meaningful gazes around at all. Hmmm. I'll say this: it's only been 10 episodes since Damon snapped Jeremy's neck. He's making pretty good time.

As a huge DE fan, I pretty much squealed / screamed / went nuts after watching the webclip.

I caught that look from Damon to Elena also. But every one loves Damon/Ian. On and off the screen peopl can't stay away from the man!
"I'll say this: it's only been 10 episodes since Damon snapped Jeremy's neck. He's making pretty good time."
10 episodes is HALF a season, that doesn't seem rushed to me. It's not like she's saying she's madly in love with Damon or jumping in bed with him.. she just said she cares about him, and wanted him to know.
This DE drought had to end eventually, and i'm glad we're starting to get some rain drops.

Yeah that Bonnie thing confused me too ... Her cooperation is one thing .. But I thought that she wasn't strong enough to bring the seal down on her own ..isn't that what she told Stefan the last time he asked her to bring the seal down in "Rose" ... Its so funny though, its like what her grandmother says.. "withches, always being brought down by vampire problems" loll.. Poor Bonnie..
And as for that "look" .. I noticed it throughout the whole clip, she kept on looking at Damon..Its just odd because she hasn't done that in a while so for her to do that NOW when they technically never reconciled etc is interesting ... I dont think elena admitting she 'cares' about Damon is rushed at all .. She always cared about him.. but after the Jeremy incident it was hidden and repressed by anger.. but I think now that there are higher stakes she's more vocal about it ... I mean as much as she hates the guy, I'm sure deep down inside she misses their friendship.. I loved Damon's shocked face expression though.. Poor guy, he wasnt expecting it.. Just when he 'let her go' she's giving him the tiniest bit of hope loll ..
Truthfully, I get the appeal of a D/E romance .. But I REALLLY WANT A FRIENDSHIP between them first .. I mean its not like their friendship in season 1 was platonic or anything cause they had sexual tension etc.. But I miss their friendly banter.. their friendship was unique and special.. I want to see that for awhile.. If they jump into a romance,I will lose respect for Elena/Damon.. I want their romance to be about "Love" not "lust" and their love story to me at least is one that should take lots and lots of time to cultivate.. I want their friendship to sort of lead into it later..much much later..I would appreciate their romance more if that were the case... And Stefan is still around so its not like Elena is going to fall out of love with him anytime soon..
According to @julieplec, if we try to understand timing in this show, we're gona get mad so 10 episodes could be two months or...a year. Real life is just like that in Mystic Falls and Damon was suffering in every episode lately. Did you see that too or was just me?
Ummmm... another little "detail" about the video. Elena pointed at him. I think he is in shock for that too.

Finally a webclip was released and it was more than I could hope for. At last, Elena admitted she cares for both brothers, not just Stefan. Actually, she made a point to let Damon know how much she cares for him and yes, he looked surprised. This brings me back to the question: Was she really compelled when Damon confessed his love for her, or had she use Jenna's vervain perfume? Only time will tell. I sincerely hope this is the babysteps towards a Damon and Elena relationship. These two have undeniable hot chemistry together and their feelings need to come to the surface.
This show would be so awesome if they'd just forget about the triangle... Honestly, the most compelling relationships are
Damon/Stefan - brotherhood
Damon/Stefan/Caroline - vamp family (seriously, does this how not do sires?)
Caroline/Tyler - newbie supernatural powers
Caroline/Bonnie - does Caroline even know Bonnie told Damon to give her blood? or told Katherine she had it?
Damon/Alaric - bromance
Jer/Elena - siblings w/o anyone else
Elena/Katherine/Original Petrova for the curse
Caroline/her mom - mother/daughter drama
Katherine/Stefan/Damon - why did she turn them both?
Bonnie/witchcraft - seriously, how did she become all super witch
I don't know why they must focus so much on whether or not Elena chooses Stefan or Damon. It makes it all "90210 I'm embarrassed to admit to my friends I watch this" instead of the awesome show that should be nominated for an Emmy!
