'Survivor: Nicaragua's' Marty Piombo surprised by Jane's hostility towards him

jill-marty-survivor.jpgMarty Piombo was the latest eliminated "Survivor: Nicaragua" contestant. He tells Zap2it about why he didn't like Jane or NaOnka and what he wishes he had done differently.

Did you enjoy "Survivor"? Was it everything you hoped it would be?

"It was everything I hoped it would be and more. It truly, truly was the experience of a lifetime. I wouldn't trade it for anything."

Do you have a lot of animosity towards Jane or NaOnka? Or was it more in the heat of the game?

"Within five minutes of the game starting, Jane ran up to me and said, 'My husband just died, I need the money, please don't vote me off.' Personally, that turned me off towards Jane. I've had more close, personal human tragedy in my life than Jane and Chase combined, but I would never bring that into the game and leverage it on a reality TV show. That, combined with the way that she chose Wendy Jo right away and Jimmy T. right away to align with, told me this person's not thinking smart, she's erratic, she's not strategic. But all that stuff was pragmatic, I was never hateful or resentful towards her. Her comment last night about my children and my fatherhood was a little over the line, even by 'Survivor' standards, but I don't hate her."

"Now, NaOnka was just such a conundrum for me. The older tribe never would've let that behavior fly. I wanted to keep strong people, strong players who were thinkers around. I would rather get to the final 5 with strong players and let the chips fall where they may, rather than keep horror shows like NaOnka around. The exception is Danny, who wasn't physically that strong, but he was a good, solid, trustworthy guy."

Do you wish you had done anything differently?

"The one thing that I would do differently is I would have tried to play with Holly. Early on, Holly showed some really bad attitudes. She looked real shaky and I didn't consider her a strategic player. But her game warmed up and she got much better and that is an in road where I could've wedged myself. She has high moral standards and is a loyal person and if I'd spent time with her and walked her through some scenarios, that could've become a good wedge into the Jane/Chase/NaOnka alliance."

Once you could watch the show back, did anything surprise you?

"I was taken aback by the level of hostility anger and hatred of Jane towards me and my family and all that. That was just shocking. There's nothing that Jill or I did to her or said to her, it was her own creating, a victim of her own poor alliance building and feeling like she was on the outs. I don't know if it's because we happen to be educated or the socio-economic level or what. I love the way I was edited in the game, I'm very, very pleased. Playing with Jimmy Johnson was great. I would've loved to have played longer with him. Other than that, I'm thrilled. People found it entertaining and fun and funny without being destructive or stealing or saying horrible things about other people. I brought a really fun brand."

Who were you rooting for once you were voted off?

"I liked the people who were really smart in the game and people who were really genuine. I think you know who I'm talking about -- the strong, strategic players who were calling the shots and the people who  were really genuine, who appeared to be flying under the radar but were not."

Any final thoughts or messages to your fans?

"I'm ecstatic with the level of support everybody gave me. I'm sorry to disappoint people by leaving earlier than I would've liked. I'm blessed for having played the game and my partnership with Jill was the highlight of the season for me. I wish that could've been maintained further. Other than that, it was an incredible experience."

"I don't know if it's because we happen to be educated or the socio-economic level or what."

What a ****

Glad he's gone. Haven't watched since Jimmy Johnson was voted off. This guy is the reason. It's just rich to read about him saying he wished he could've played with him longer.

Glad to see him go. What a waste of human space.

I quit watching after Kelly B was voted off. I'll start watching again once I hear NaOnka's gone.

It's funny that Marty says he loved the way he was edited. I found him to be an egotistical a** and a hypocrite to boot. Just goes to show what kind of guy he is that he likes being portrayed in such a way. And wasn't he hating on Jimmy Johnson from the beginning, yet he would have like to have him around longer? Marty really needs to get his stories straightened out.

What a scuz. He likes the way he was edited on the show even though he came across as a pompous a-hole? umm okay.

I do agree that Jane spews a lot more hatred and evil than people give her credit for. I hope she gets voted out real soon.

Good to know Naonka is as bad as she appears and was not edited to look that way. I can hate on her even more now.

I guess I'm still rooting for Fabio. No one else really makes an impression.

Sure Marty is arrogant, but without arrogant players who play hard Survivor would be a total bore. Guys like Marty and Russell Hantz drive the action and it never ceases to amaze me how many fans post in comments/forums that they are rooting for them to get voted out asap.

This group is a bunch of sheep....they are carrying Brenda to the finale on a red carpet. The problem with alliances is that there can only be 3 in the finale and the other 3-6 people in the alliance are just out of luck.

NaOnka is a despicable human being...a PE Teacher?? What a poor role model...her school system should fire her.

Jane is a close second...just can't stand her.

I agree with most of the comments...Marty is a bit of a hypocrite for saying he wanted to be able to play the game with Jimmy Johnson longer, when it was Marty's single-minded determination that got Jimmy voted out. Marty was just jealous that his tribe looked to Jimmy Johnson for leadership and not to him since Marty (many, many, many times) said he wanted to be leader. What a douchebag!

Marty apparently is one of those people who can dish it out, but can't take it...so I'm glad his egotistical, arrogant butt got voted out - even though he was so confident (based on his parting words) he was staying.

Dan...you may enjoy watching people like Marty or Russell, but I didn't and am glad that Russell didn't win and Marty got voted off. You don't speak for all "Survivor" viewers. It never ceases to amaze me how many fans post in comments/forums thinking that they speak for the entire population.

Clandestine Green...I don't think NaOnka is a P.E. teacher in the traditional sense. I believe I read that she teaches a class at a fitness center as opposed to a school. I also believe that NaOnka is a personal trainer (which would explain her attitude).

cici217...the only people I recall Jane having any problem with is Marty and Jill. Everyone else seems to like her, or at least have no strong opinion about her. I usually take what losers like Marty say after they are voted off with a grain of salt, because they are spinning everything to make themselves look good. For all we know, Marty could lying about Jane approaching him with a sob story about her husband. He has set it up to be a he said/she said sort of thing that can't be collaborated by a third party. The fact that most other people - on both tribes - don't seem to have a strong dislike of Jane tells me that the problem likely was with Marty and Jill and THEIR behavior towards Jane.

I agree with Marty on watching the "under the radar" types. They traditionally win. My money is on Fabio to take it all.
