'Supernatural's very 'X-Files' moment: The truth is in there
It's no secret that "Supernatural" has been heavily inspired by "The X-Files," but the influence has never been quite so literal as it is in this brand new clip from Friday's episode, "Clap Your Hands if You Believe." The episode begins with a classic cold open and leads into a title sequence that we expect geeks across the land to completely freak out over.
"When we decided to do an alien abduction as the teaser, and we immediately thought to do the title sequence," executive producer Sera Gamble tells AOL.
The cast and crew still mourn the loss of Kim Manners, the beloved producer who passed away in January of 2009. Manners was best known for his extensive work on "The X-Files," and he brought the same sensibility and standard of quality to "Supernatural."
"It would be hard to find someone working on the show who isn't an 'X-Files' fan," Gamble says. "It was especially fun to put together the homage because 'Supernatural' does owe a real creative debt of gratitude to the show; I think the whole current generation of genre shows does."
You don't want to skip the clip below. Oh, nostalgia.

OMG CARINA I CAN'T WAIT FOR THIS. But first I need to know the following (1) what is this show about and (2) when is it on. I KNOW, I KNOW.
I think I have lost all faith in the current powers that be who are in charge of Supernatural at present. I knew the "Faery" episode would be a clusterf---, but some things you can't take back, and this episode so damages the mythological structure of the show that it cannot recover. I cannot emphasize this enough-THIS EPISODE HAS IRREVOCABLY DAMAGED THE CONSTRUCT IT TOOK FIVE YEARS TO ESTABLISH.
It was bad enough, when the writers turned Dean into Dagwood Bumstead at the beginning of this season. But tonight, my girlfriend compared Dean to Inspector Clousseau, and I find that intolerable. And sadly accurate. I have never felt bad for any actor on this show for a performance...until tonight. Jensen Ackles would be better off getting back his old job at Days of our Lives than staying on Supernatural another day. And I don't watch soaps. I understand he had a standing offer to return there...? At least Jared Padalecki kept his dignity, for the most part. But everyone involved in this embarassing and stupid episode should hang their heads in shame.
It is not a good day when I have to agree with Van, but I must. Too many characters, too much of a cheap shot joke to make a cheap laugh about 'Fairy's'.
It's like the writers want to the boys to have their own spinoff shows in one.
Bring them back or have Jared or Jensen start their own spinoff to fill in for the missing Smallville next year.
They took a good actor, Robert Picardo, that performed as the leprechaun and they wasted it with extra creatures.
And why does Dean's phone still lists Christian when we know he's now a demon. Should he take him out of his contact list?
So, folktoe doesn't like agreeing with her better educated, better read and able-to-spell fellow blogger, ay? Well, sorry, Folksy old girl, but it's fans like you that gnarly episodes like the last one are clearly aimed at. But it missed the mark, even for those of you with diminished expectations. Proof that something is wrong at the top.
Actually, nearly every online reviewer loved this episode, and so did i -- congrats SPN ;)
Last time I checked you didn’t need to have a degree smarter than the blogger to post your opinion. If that was the case my High School diploma opinion must fall flat.
However, I do know the show last night bypassing the opening, which has been blasted posted everywhere nerdy---totally blew
chunks.
Whats the BFD about Spel Chek anyway? :-0
Yeah, I think "blew chunks" is being democratic to that ep. And by the way, nothing is wrong with actually feeling good about yourself or your opinion, whatever it might be. And taking seriously anything posted at a place like this is just silly--I simply see all interaction as a way to educate, or correct. But that's just me.As for whatever "Eveyone Else" might think about "Clap your Hands, does not stop it from being abysmal. And no, you don't need a degree to post here...but manners might be a plan, along with owning a dictionary.
I am blown away at how interesting the content is on this web page. I have written down this web site and I really intend on coming back to the site in the upcoming days. Keep up the excellent work!
