Sarah Jones: Meet J.J. Abrams' 'Alcatraz' ingenue

sarah-jones-lone-star.jpgJ.J. Abrams has a history of successfully casting female leads. Keri Russell's "Felicity" is still revered as one of television's best casting moves, and he also launched Jennifer Garner to superstardom as Sydney Bristow on "Alias." More recently, audiences have fallen in love with Evangeline Lilly on "Lost" and Anna Torv on "Fringe."

The latest lucky actress to snag an Abrams pilot is "Sons of Anarchy's" Sarah Jones. Jones, who in addition to "Sons" appeared on "House" and Fox's short-lived "Lone Star" this year, has been cast in "Alcatraz," Fox's latest Warner Bros pilot for Fox.

Jones plays smart (and slightly obsessive) cop Rebecca Madsen, whose world is shaken up when a group of prisoners and guards who went missing from Alcatraz appear in the present day. A team of FBI agents has to track down the group and investigate their disappearance 30 years ago.

What do you think, Zappers? Can Jones follow in the footsteps of the J.J. Abrams ingenues who have gone before her? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.

I don't like it. I don't think she has "it". J.J. hasn't been lucky with the last few castings. I don't like Anna Torv, the UnderCovers leads weren't appealing and now her. And I was excited for the show when I heard Jorge was going to be on it.

She's hot and was great in Sons Of Anarchy.

As has been proved by the huge disappointment that was Undercovers (13 and out), just because J.J.'s name is attached to something doesn't mean that it's going to be a good show.

I find that I really dislike "people on the run" shows. One of the big reasons is because the show has no chance for any real suspense...if they catch the people, the show is over. Plus, like any show, the show is likely to be canceled abruptly without an "exit," so the faithful viewers will never get to see the people get caught (or get away for good, as the case may be).

J.J.'s casting ability has definatley proved itself through others. Im sure she will be wonderful.
