This season on
"Supernatural," Sam Winchester is a little... off. While Sam is walking and talking and alive, he's a little off-- his soul is still in hell, locked in a cage with Lucifer and Michael.
We love the storyline and it's undoubtedly giving
Jared Padalecki an unprecedented chance to show off his acting skills. We always knew he was good -- but we didn't know
he was this good. We're thoroughly unsettled by the guy Dean (
Jensen Ackles) refers to as Robo-Sam.
While we love this storyline and the fun opportunity it offers to explore
a new dynamic between the brothers, we can't help but kind of miss real Sam.You know, back when he had actual emotions that didn't involve getting laid and killing things.
Here, we take a very fond look back on the many emotions of Sam Winchester -- and our favorite emotional moments from throughout the seasons.

there was also really sad sam in "heart" when he had to kill madison. I cried at the end of that episode :[
This is the greatest article to exist ever. Oh Sam. I love him so...my favourite kind of Sam is every kind that has him having a soul. Man I miss that boy.
What about HEART?? The rollercoaster of emotions, culminating in a finale that took the series from good to great. This episode alone shows Sam's range of emotions, and it also shows Jared's incredible (and untapped) range as an actor. Give Season 2's HEART some love!
Dude are you like Padalecki's official publicist or something?
THANKS 4 GREAT ARTICLE ABOUT SAMMY.
REALLY LOVE JARED HE IS A GREAT ACTOR
I wish you'd put in the episode with Madison at the end. I'd say that is pretty sad Sam.
Nothing show's Jared's range better than going from playing the goody-two-shoes boyfriend on "Gilmore Girls" to the often violent, uncontrolled Sam.
The best thing with Jared's acting that his emotions just encompasses you and pulls you in. I'm sad he's currently in a show that ditched his storyline. This actor will yet do great things, given half a chance.
I can't wait to see him in something better than what he is currently in. Preferably on the big screen.
I totally agree with Mark; just his portrayal of Sam, with all the changes in the character, is amazing.
Is it just me, or have this guy transformed from a boy into a man in the last few seasons? Standing next to Bobby and Dean in the last ep, I was surprised by how seriously manly he looked. And scrumptious
"are you 2 together?" ruby says. Even after sam tells her dean is his brother, she still has that strange look on her face.
A demon that eats pizza?
