Duh: Joss Whedon passed on new 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' movie
Recent events have shown us that a handful of Warner Brothers executives and evil franchise owners Fran Rubel Kuzui and Kaz Kuzui are the only people who actually think that a "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" movie is a good idea. But that doesn't mean that they didn't at least try to make the cinematic reboot a non-disaster. Before signing unknown scribe Whit Anderson to take care of the screenplay, The Hollywood Reporter says the project was pitched to "Buffy" creator Joss Whedon.
Naturally, Whedon said, "thanks, but no thanks" -- or, more likely, just "no thanks."
Whedon reportedly wanted to work on other projects -- like his upcoming adaptation of "The Avengers" -- but aren't there other reasons at play here? Whedon was not a fan of what happened with the original "Buffy" film, largely based on changes made by rightsholder and director Rubel Kuzui. It's why he pushed so hard to make the TV series.
And after getting 7 season to tell the story he wanted on television, and an eighth in comic book form, it's safe to assume the man has probably had enough of the character for a while.
Buffy would probably appreciate the rest, too.

A reboot is always a good idea- I like the new Hawaii five o better than the original- but I have on caveat:
PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEASE DO NOT CAST A 30 YEAR OLD PRETENDING TO BE A 16 YEAR OLD!!!!!!!!!!
I think the world is smarter than that crap. If you're going to cast a 30 year old, make the character 30. Or, with the right make up, I might buy 27. I would NEVER buy 16. Dude
A reboot is rarely a good idea (ie. Bionic Woman, Knight Rider, Get Smart, The New WKRP, etc...)
buffy was college age when we left her so i seriously doubt that they would try to make her 16.
i for one would LOVE a new buffy movie. i've watched the series all the way through 3 times and watched individual episodes i love countless times. at some point i'm still asking for more! more buffy! it is one of the best television shows ever made and i find it hard to enjoy any other show as much.
a buffy movie would be a great idea!! fans of buffy never get tired of it :)
It will all come down to the cast.
It's going to be a total reboot. No Willow - no Xander, etc. It's not going to be a continuation of the TV series. And it's not going to be good.
It wasn't the idea or story that made the series great, it was the writing. The movie had little of the metaphorical "angst" that separated the series from pretenders like "Supernatural" or "Vampire Diaries". It's not w/out its charm (Paul Reubens), but this is a remake that is unwarranted and unrequested by fans.
Reboot = We're out of ideas
Yeah, that and the "let's jump on the hollywood 'you can never have enough vampires' bandwagon, before it stops rolling" mentality.
The reboot will have nothing to do with awesome game-changing TV series. It's an attempt to cash in on a brand name only. No SMG, no scoobies, no Joss = no thanks.
