'Dancing With the Stars': 5 reasons Jennifer Grey will win, 5 reasons she won't

jennifer-gre-5-reasons.jpg
We've examined the pros and cons of Bristol Palin, Kyle Massey and Brandy. So in the last moments before the "Dancing With the Stars" semifinals, it's time to check in on the favorite, Jennifer Grey.

Jennifer's advantages have been apparent from day one, but it isn't until we really get down to the wire when we'll see just how much her faults could cost her.

She's undeniably at home on the dance floor... but her rehearsal packages haven't exactly made her endearing. So is it victory or failure for Baby Houseman? Here's a case for both.

5 reasons Jennifer will win:

1. "The Chosen One"  - They said it. Not us. Jennifer's selection for "DWTS" seemed like something of a self-fulfilling prophecy when the cast was announced. And the judges have made it clear from the beginning that this is her competition to lose.

2. Skills - All that praise is completely warranted. When Jennifer is good, she's amazing. She's got the season's only perfect score under her belt and a renewed commitment to kicking butt going into the final stretch.

3. "Dirty Dancing" - We maintain our original prediction that this season will come down to Jennifer and Derek recreating the climactic scene that solidified her as a screen icon for all of eternity. If she makes it to the finale, she will indeed have the time of her life.

4. A comeback story - Voters love a story of resurrected fame, and Jennifer has been out of the public eye for years. The mirrorball trophy is a fitting reward for winning back so many fans.

5. Derek - A two-time champ, Hough is the most decorated pro left in the competition. He's a force to be reckoned with, and his sweet demeanor softens Jennifer's occasionally rough edges.

5 reasons Jennifer will lose:

1. Endurance
- Her neck is a constant consideration in choreography, and, as of Week 8, her knees are giving her even more trouble. Jennifer is fit for 50, but she also has a lot of problems, and they may keep her from performing to her full capability.

2. The complaining - It's been a bit of a trial watching Jennifer. On one hand, her medical woes and age make us want her to succeed. And on the other... they make us want her to zip it. She's been the most vocally frustrated of Season 11's contestants, and it may have left a sour taste for more than a few voters.

3. Consistency - Jennifer has brought in the highest scores this season, but she's also had some off weeks. In the crunch, it's entirely possible that she could fall apart again.

4. Bristol - Though Brandy does pose a skill-based threat, the real wild card for Jennifer is how many people are actually voting for Bristol. She's come this far, so maybe she'll go all the way.

5. The nose - We don't want to bring up this kind of dirty laundry, but the fact remains that America never forgave Jennifer for that nose job. She erased the girl we fell in love with from "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" and "Dirty Dancing." And no matter how many years pass, that will always be on a lot of people's minds.

So there you have it, folks. Your semifinalists all been dissected. So who's getting your vote?

I'm kind of rooting for her to win, because the hardest thing to do is to win when everyone expects you to!

As for the complaining, I try to keep in mind that the celebrities on this show are at the mercy of the editing. There's an awful lot of rehearsal footage and most of it is never seen by us. Someone has to decide what gets played up in the video packages. I bet any one of these celebrities has said and done enough to be portrayed as "the whiner", "the mean one", "the sweet one", "the nervous wreck", etc.

The show's production staff has, for some reason, decided to show us Jennifer's most difficult moments week after week, even though they must have realized that is would damage her in some viewers eyes. It has been relentless.

i love dwts soooo much i life in california and my momma lives in alabama and we always watch ur show.its so special when i go home in may and we watch the spring season finale 2gether.i cant wait to see cheryl burke in 'forever tango' in san francisco next month around new years

I think Jennifer and Derek are great. I gave up on the video packages years ago so they don't influence me at all. I was worried there might be a lot of comparison to the amazing Nicole but that hasn't happened because Jennifer has her own style. I really hope they win that trophy, but that would just be a bonus for her. Baby is back.

If Bristol wins this season I will never watch again. What a joke that would be. Don't get me wrong, I don't have any issues with the girl personally (I actually think she is rather sweet and a trooper for having to put up with a jerk of an ex-boyfriend who is also the father of her child and who will therefore be in her life always and for dealing with her diva of a mom - SP is not necessarily a diva in the classical sense of the word, but in her own way and in an Alaskan way ... heck yes she is), but she is just not good enough to win (and I think if she does win it'll be Sarah's fans who put her over the top).

BRING KURT BACK! PLEASE BRISTOL, FORFEIT! BRING KURT BACK!!!!!

BRING BACK KURT! THERE I SAID IT AGAIN. BRING BACK KURT

Jennifer is a dancer which is why she landed the Dirty Dancing role and has no business being on the show in the first place. Her father Joel Grey is also a famous dancer. It's also hard listening to her whine week after week when even at her worst she's better than everyone else - but then she should be - she's a dancer! The whole object of the show is development of inexperienced dancing stars. I suppose it's not her fault that she was chosen, but it is hardly fair to anyone having her in the competition, which is why she won't get any votes of mine.

Please, please, please, let the finals be the three best dancers left and the 3 that deserve to be there... Jennifer, Brady and Kyle. Bristol should have been gone long ago.

If they are in the final 3, then I won't be disappointed with whoever wins it. I expect Jennifer to win. I want Brandy to win because Maks is my fave pro. And I'd be delightfully surprised if Kyle won.

I am hoping that Jennifer, Brandy and Kyle are in the semi-finals. Bristol has improved a lot but she is not in the caliber of the other three. I am hoping that Brandy wins but will be comfortable with any of the three. I do not know if I can stand it if Bristol wins, not because of her mother, but because the other three are much better dancers.

I am going with Jennifer or Brandy . I would be satisfy with either one of those two winning the trophy. If Bristol wins, I and a lot of America will not watch again. The winner is the best dancer, not the most connected.
