Big changes for CBS' 'The Early Show': Harry Smith and Maggie Rodriguez out
Our deepest condolences go out to fans of of CBS' "The Early Show," because the morning news broadcast is getting a face-lift. Co-anchors Harry Smith and Maggie Rodriguez and weather forecaster Dave Price are out. So who are their replacements?CBS is keeping it in the family, promoting Chris Wragge and Erica Hill from the Saturday "Early Show." Hill, who's the current news reader for the weekday show, will relinquish those duties to Jeff Glor, Saturday's "CBS Evening News" anchor and a reporter from "The Early Show." Finally, Marysol Castro, formerly of ABC's "Good Morning America" weekend edition, will take over weather.
"Erica, Chris, Marysol and Jeff are four accomplished broadcasters who already have proven track records and loyal followings," "Early Show" executive producer David Friedman says. "This group is the perfect combination of intelligence and personality for morning television."
"The Early Show" has been a perpetual third-place finisher in the network morning-show ratings, trailing NBC's "Today" and "GMA" by sizable margins.
The new "Early Show" team starts work on Jan. 3.

Unbelievable. My mouth dropped open, and I can't get it closed. My wife and I love this team and can't imagine the show without them. I'm sorry they aren't bringing in the numbers CBS is looking for. It's not their fault. I do hope they'll get a lot of negative fan mail and change their minds. I must be dreaming.
I wish GMA would now hire Harry Smith, and drop George. But it won't
happen.

Wow....why take something that is working and change it? I also watch the Saturday "Early Show" but prefer the weekday show. Too bad!!
Harry Smith will probably be replacing Katie Coruic on the evening news once her outlandish deal finally expires. Price goes back to local weather and the news anchor works in another forum, but yet Chen still keeps her job. That's neoptism for you.
Hill and Wragge are great together on the weekend show and will bring new energy to "The Early Show". They have great chemistry which is what is currently missing and that's why CBS and "The Early Show" are in last place. I don't understand though, why they waited so long to make this change. I am sure they could have found Julie another job at any time.
Sounds like a strategy Zap2it could profitably look into.
YES! More Chris Wragge! He's awesome. Love watching the weekend CBS early team, so I can't wait! And I agree. More Jeff Glor.
