AMA Awards 2010: Taylor Swift's OneRepublic 'Apologize' mash-up performance
When Taylor Swift appeared on the American Music Awards stage at a piano, singing "Back to December," surrounded by wintery scenery... we almost decided it was nap time. Not because we don't love us some Swifty, but because we were pretty sure we saw this performance at last week's Country Music Association awards. Sure, this time Swift ditched her fairy princess look for sleek bangs and a classy blazer, but that wasn't quite enough to keep our attention... until she threw off her seatbelt (did we mention the piano moved?) and busted out OneRepublic's "Apologize."
See, we're kind of addicted to mash-ups, so this would be awesome in itself. But since "Back to December" is basically Swift's giant apology for being kind of a jerk to Taylor Lautner last winter, and Taylor was singing "It's too late to apologize,' it was self-referential enough to make us sit up and pay attention.
(Okay, we jumped out of our chair. Some things may have been knocked over. We really love us some Swifty.)
Sure, it was a little pitchy... but we thought the new look and the cool song arrangement made up for it. Do you agree? Let us know in the comments what you thought of her show.

a little negative dont you think? she was amazing, she's beautiful and she was just singing her new song. she had a new hairdo a new outfit look new stage setup, she came floating down from a huge altar with the piano, she sang a different version of back to december. so just shut up.
I am usually not a fan of hers when she sings live, but I have to say we she slows it down she sounds much better. It is such a beautiful song. Nice job Taylor!!!
a little pitchy? Sure, Taylor Swift may have a talent for song writing and she's a good role model for teens, but she's a terrible singer... especially Live.
A LITTLE pitchy? She's a great song writer, but the live singing has got to improve. She needs to take singing lessons and work on breath control--especially since she's known as a live performer. I do agree that she's a good role model for teens. I'm curious what Taylor Lautner thinks of the song. I've never seen any comment by him regarding it.
Swift was like Tori Amos meets Aicia Keys. Crazy Beautiful song:)
No, she was a little pitchy... there were a couple moments she was slightly off. That doesn't make her a terrible singer by any stretch.
She's definitely improving when it comes to her performances on these live shows... This was leaps and bounds better than at the Grammy's when she sang Today Was a Fairytale or the cover she sang when she was on the Haiti benefit show (which is actually a really nice song).
she's perfect
I think she was the most nuanced, emotional and beautiful singer of the evening. Oh ... and real!
In the midst of a plethora of auto-tuned, lip synced dance pop/rap, it is so nice to hear someone sing from a place of authenticity, and connect so strongly with her audience.

I love her, and her albums/writing, but I get so embarrassed for her when she sings live!
