The CW fast-tracks 'Danni Lowinski' pilot for midseason, bad news for 'Life Unexpected'?

lux-britt.gifAt last May's network Upfronts, we were surprised to learn that The CW didn't have any original programming lined up for midseason other than a reality show about brides getting in shape for the big day.

Now, it looks like the C-dub is feeling the crunch, because according to Deadline they've greenlit and fast-tracked a new legal dramedy, "Danni Lowinski."

Based on the 13-episode German series, "Danni Lowinski" follows a hairdresser who graduates from law school and can't find a job (presumably because she's too young, cute, and perky to be a serious lawyer). Undeterred, Danni starts her own law firm... at a kiosk in a shopping mall.

Though the pilot hasn't even been written yet, The CW is already considering it for midseason. They're confident in the source material and in key writer Snyder Urman, whose "90210," "Men In Trees," "Gilmore Girls," and "Lipstick Jungle" credits speak to her ability to write for women.

So far, no casting news, but we'll keep you posted.

While we're looking forward to some fresh faces on The CW, midseason enthusiasm may come as bad news to the network's lowest-rated drama, "Life Unexpected." The critical darling experienced a slight bump in the 18-34 ratings demo this week, but it may not be enough to save it, despite the best grassroots efforts of its small but enthusiastic fanbase.

LUX isn't dead yet, but now would be a good time to start crossing your fingers and convincing your friends to watch. Especially your friends with Nielsen boxes.

Meanwhile, veteran "One Tree Hill" and newbie "Hellcats" are hopeful for a full season pickup since they've both received six-episode script orders beyond the initial 13 episodes.

What are your thoughts on the new pickup, Zappers? Does it sound like something you'd watch? Weigh in in the comments.

I think it sounds dumb, I won't watch.

Not at all. I bet you it gets lower ratings than Life Unexpected. Lets be honest 90210 and Gossip Girl's ratings aren't that much better. Life Unexpected is a good "Family" show. Maybe if the cast started singing ala Glee the ratings would pick up. How in the world Glee is a hit is beyond me.

Depending on what time slot they give it, I might check out the new, but not so sure about the title.

I'm still mourning the fact that I didn't have any room in my DVR for Hellcats because I really enjoyed the first two episodes a lot! I will rent it when each season is released on dvd, though. :)

Sorry to the Life Unexpected fans..that bites.

That would be a shame in Life Unexpected gets canceled. It's been my Gilmore Girls replacement that we all know everyone has needed since that glorious show ended...That new lawyer show sounds dumb. We already have had "Legally Blonde", we don't need another.

Danni Lowinski is a great show. If the CW manages to capture if a bit of its funny and drama, it could be a great show. However, I think the source material might be too dark for the US market and therefore they'll make it a lot more quirky and dumb it down a lot.

Life unexpected is a great show, and may have not survived a 2nd season on another network like ABC or NBC, but it has great writing, actors and all around is a really good show. I hope that CW is smart and keeps the show. I think OTH is great but its time to consider it as the last season. the actors even want to move forward with other projects.

Wow. This pilot sound ridiculously dumb. They think women actually would want to watch this?

LUX is a great family show ala The WB on a network that prefers very sudsy teen soaps.

Life unexpected is a good show. The ratings system is so flawed.. why is the entire country stuck with what a select few watch. Personally I hate CSI, but according to neilson its the best scripted show out there...bs.

PS. This new show is going to be DOA

yay one tree hilll and hellcats
both doing goood in my books
oth 8 years now :)

Any woman who watches this show is a f#@$ing idiot!
