'Smallville's' Sam Witwer talks 'Being Human,' Davis Bloome and Halloween

"Smallville" fans, if you're going to miss Sam Witwer, don't fret too much.

Although Davis Bloome is gone, Witwer lives on (and on) as the vampire Aidan in Syfy's American take on the BBC series "Being Human," which will premiere sometime in January. Aidan is just one of the supernatural roommates that includes Josh the werewolf (Sam Huntington) and Sally the ghost (Meaghan Rath).

Witwer chats with Zap2it during the Syfy Digital Press Day Monday (Oct. 11) to mourn Davis Bloome: "I was very sad for what happened to him. I always thought he deserved better ... I'd love to come back. Me and him suffered together a lot I suppose."

He also discusses playing an old yet youthful vampire, how it feels to return to the Syfy network after portraying Crashdown on "Battlestar Galactica" and  his worst Halloween costume ever.

He also does an impersonation of David Strathairn that sounds a lot like Don Adams.

Now that we're about 3-4 wks. into the new season, I have to say out of ALL the new TV shows this season, the one that stands out as well-written AND well-acted is "THE WHOLE TRUTH." Yes, it's yet another law show, but this one is so unique, because each week, as the episode progresses, you get to see BOTH sides of a case. Through the eyes of the Prosecuter & the Defense Attorney....what a way to actually get a little insight into how each side!! Intelligent, great topics, and a great group ensemble! Hope they win an Emmy on down the line!

I'll have to check out Being Human for Sam Witwer. His Davis Bloome character definetely deserved a better end.

JMO, but I wouldn't mind if he stayed away forever. I don't think there would be a fitting way to get him back and he wasn't very interesting to me. He was a part of one of the worst seasons of Smallville ever made.
Only Tess, Lana, Chloe and the Legion made it worth watching.

We'll definitely be watching "Being Human." Sam Witwer was terrific as Davis Bloome and his dark redemption arc helped create "Smallville's" most compelling season ever. (A good save after two utterly lackluster seasons in a row really tested my viewing loyalty.)

I too thought the character deserved a more honorable end---even a tragic one. So glad Sam gets to sink his teeth into another complex, challenging character.
