'Project Runway': Andy, Gretchen or Mondo FTW? Vote!
Wow. So was Season 8 of "Project Runway" as dramatic for you as it was for us? We're hoping for some catharsis soon, but of course we have Part II of the finale to get through first. Let's hope no one passes out (oh wait, Ivy already did).Down to the Final 3, and we admit we sorta wanted Michael Costello in the mix because where he goes, drama follows. Can you just imagine the catty comments the returning designers would have made? Would any of them even be able to work with him? And he's just the sweetest guy in the world.
Anyway, let's take a look at the three who actually are going to show at Fashion Week:
Andy South - He was terribly inconsistent but he slowly came into his own, which makes sense since he's only 23. He brings a unique warrior woman style into his designs, and has a penchant for making unflattering pants/shorts that are nevertheless probably super comfy. He's had one of the lowest scores three times with one of those in the Bottom 2. He's also won two challenges -- one near the beginning and the most recent challenge -- and had two more designs among the highest scores.
Gretchen Jones - Her designs are very clean, flowy and muted/pretty, but can border on matronly or boring at times. She started out the gate strong with two back-to-back wins, but as the competition wore on, she started faltering a bit, having the lowest score twice (with one Bottom 2 close call). Her extreme confidence has earned her a rather cocky reputation, but she's also gone through some personal upheaval and seems to have softened a bit.
Mondo Guerra - Beginning as the outsider, he began more confident as his designs earned him praise, wins and even a monetary prize. He's the master of mixing graphics, bold colors and construction. He's been among the highest scorers four times (without the win) and won three back-to-back challenges recently. He's been among the low scorers once. During the competition, he also revealed he's HIV-positive, which was an emotional moment on the runway.

Mondo and Andy both seem like more creative people (and both seem like very nice guys)
Gretchen's stuff is uninspired and run-of the mill
I was shopping today and the Michael Kors fashions were sooo matronly looking. Yet he always dogs the designers about creating "granny" clothes.
Mondo and Andy's cloths could only be worn by circus people.
Gretchen won! I didn;t like her - she's weird. I loved Mondo's designs. But on the other hand, Gretchen's is wearable - where would I wear Mondo's?
this show sucks and will not watch it again! Mondo should have won hands down!! Gretchen was a boring show and at least Mondo showed creativity and vision fun and fashion and i'm 54!! not too old to look at fashion.
Seriously, GRETCHEN WON??? Wasn't able to watch, but thought Mondo would win easily. Shocking!
Gretchen?????? Whatever this is crazy - who would want to wear "granny panties" in public?? maybe Nina since she thought Mondo's collection was young - at least it was fun and colorful and very well made - you guys made a mistake this time!!!
Total setup by Heidi to have Gretchen be the chosen one. The debate at the end was fake. If you watch the show all season long, you know all along that Heidi planned to have Gretchen win. Gretchen knew it too.
Sucks for Mondo, who really creates great fashion.
We am absolutely shocked that Mondo did not win - totally disappointed. What where Michael and Nina thinking. Gretchen's clothes were brown and drab, like that of common county folk from circa 1410 or during Les Miserable era but w/panties. Who would wear that? On the other hand Mondo - from the get go showed his unique style. We loved it. His clothes are hip and provocative. Clothes that both young and mature women would definitely wear. Mondo we believe in you. It is so funny - that Michael kept saying that Casanova's clothes were matronly - and that is exactly the clothes designed by Gretchen but w/panties. Totally disappointed!
What happened! The judges apparently did not see the same show we did. Gretchen's clothes matched her personality to the T - pathetic. There was no creativity and innovation in her style. Something perhaps my great grandmother would have worn, but without the panties. On the other hand Mondo had vision, knew how to work with prints, and his style is full of life and fun. Nina and Michael just didn't get it. Too bad for Project Runway. Very very disappointed.
