Kid Rock says Steven Tyler's 'American Idol' gig 'stupidest thing he's ever done'

kid-rock-getty.jpgSinger Kid Rock, who is a fan of Aerosmith, is not a fan of the Aerosmith frontman's decision to join "American Idol" as a judge. Kid tells EW of Steven Tyler, "I think it's the stupidest thing he's ever done in his life."

"He's a sacred American institution of rock 'n roll and he just threw it all out the window," Kid Rock continues. "Just stomped on it and set it on fire."

"I think whoever's advising him, we should bring back the guillotine or whatever they call that thing. And if it was himself, he needs some serious counseling. I love him to death, but I gotta speak the truth."

Pretty harsh words. What do you think, Steven Tyler/"American Idol" fans?

Are you kidding me? Aerosmith has a devoted cult fanbase. Nobody cares whether Tyler is on Idol. Someone like him will be viewed favorably no matter what they do. In fact, this will likely grow his fanbase. I think Kid Rock would jump at the position if it were offered to him. Jealously, plain and simple. Or just plain stupidity.

100% agreed KOTH!

maybe kid rock should sell out and try to become a country artist in attempt to stay relevant. oh wait....

why would anyone really care what Kid Rock thinks?

We Aerosmith fans love Steven no matter what he does. Maybe they'll watch over him at IDOL and not let him fall off the stage. Plus, the boy can't tour forever. . . he IS getting a little long in the tooth. (No offense meant, Stevie. I'm aging right along with you.)

kid rock = another no-talent loser desperate to keep his name in print. Steven Tyler has paid his dues - the dude could take up permanent residence on Sesame Street and he would still command a million times more respect than the above-mentioned hack.

Give him a break! Everyone should be so lucky to find such a cushy gig when they reach retirement age.

Hard for me to give Kid Rock any sort credibility, but this might be a start. But then I think, with a few exceptions, Aerosmith hasn't produced anything but awful dreck since 1990, so what sort of legacy are we talking about? Don't Wanna Miss A Thing? Girls of Summer? Jaded? If that's the Aerosmith legacy we're identifying with (and I suspect that is true for a lot of AI's demographic), then it isn't a big deal. But if we're talking about the band that wrote Seasons of Wither, Same Old Song and Dance, Moving Out or Mama Kin, then yes, I totally agree with Kid Rock.

Well Steven Tyler may have sold his soul to corporate America, but Kid Rock married her once. Just sayin!

I raised my kids to appreciate Aerosmith, music just didn't get any better :) That said, my respect for Steven Tyler did go way down with the AI announcement. If he wanted to retire then that's fine, he's earned it. Just don't ruin my memories with AI - that show is a joke and he is better than that.
