'Glee': Rachel and Kurt's homage to Barbra Streisand, Judy Garland
The excellent "Duets" episode of "Glee" ended with a heartbreakingly beautiful duet between Lea Michele and Chris Colfer on "Happy Days Are Here Again"/"Get Happy." It was an amazing end to a strong episode. But did you know it was an homage to a duet done first almost 50 years ago?
On an episode of the 1960s "Judy Garland Show," songbirds Barbra Streisand and Judy Garland sang a beautiful original rendition of the duet (video below). The episode aired Oct. 4, 1963 and earned Streisand an Emmy nomination.
On "Glee," Rachel and Kurt paid a wonderful homage to the legendary singer -- right down to Rachel's sailor suit and Kurt's shiny duds. What do you think, Gleeks? Did they do Judy and Babs proud?

YES YES YES That duet was awesome, perfect, beautiful, and every other good word you can use. I think it was the best performance ever done on Glee so far. Chris and Lea were sublime. I could watch that over and over and over again.
It was golden.
It was golden.
posting issues with the ipad - but it still was golden!
This is classic songs redone at it's best! Spot on duet, beautiful intertwining of their respected songs and vocals. I only wish that talented singers like these two would be played more on the radio then the crap that is produce today.
Lea and Chris, you did Babs and Judy proud. Thank you!
Sorry, you can't improve on perfection. While our young Glee kids did a great job and have loads of talent, they aren't legends yet so they fell short. But I'm sure they would agree with me!
Lea and Chris are great singers, but this is a duet that was done by 2 masters and unfortunately these 2 young artists did not even come close to the beautiful moment that Babs and Judy created.
Of course Babs is Babs and Judy is Judy but this is one of the best songs if not the best they have done on this show. Not surprisingly it was done by the two breakout stars.
They did a beautiful job. I am a Babs fan from the early sixties. I am also a Lea fan. Barbra stands alone, of course, there is only one Barbra, but you got to give it up to Lea. Singing Barbra's song is no easy feat, but she's great. After all, she's only 24. Bravo Lea and Chris for this beautiful song.
Brilliant. In every way.
