'Glee' cast bests Beatles on Billboard Hot 100
Thanks to Britney Spears, the "Glee" cast is now bigger than The Beatles.Okay, we exaggerate, but the cast of FOX's musical show will surpass the legendary rock band on Thursday, Oct. 7 when they debut six new songs on the Billboard Hot 100 (dated for Oct. 16) from the "Britney/Brittany" episode, according to Billboard.
They will then officially have the most non-solo acts in the chart's 52-year history. The Beatles have 71 charted titles, but once the new "Glee" songs are added, the cast's number will be upped to 75. The songs include "I'm a Slave 4U," "Me Against the Music," "Stronger," "Baby One More Time," "Toxic" and Paramore's "The Only Exception."
The "Glee" cast also has the Beatles to thank for their new bragging rights. Their cover of "Hello Goodbye" is among those 75 songs. On the Tuesday, Oct. 5 episode, the character Kurt (Chris Colfer) also sang the Beatles' "I Want to Hold Your Hand," so that will soon be added to the Hot 100.
Once the Oct. 16 chart is released, the "Glee" cast has only two more musicians to surpass for most Hot 100 songs overall -- James Brown with 91 songs and Elvis Presley with 108. Get to work, Gleeks.

I think the Glee cast will break both Elvis and James Brown's records by years end. If not, soon after. Congratulations to everyone involved.
how fricken sad is this.. what has happened to our society???
and
I don't even like the beatles
i think so too. The gleeks will definitely surpass Elvis and Brown's records because with the number of songs they sang every episode, it will surely add up to their staggering 75 (projected) record. Their renditions are force to be reckoned with. Go GLEE!
I like Glee but come on....Let's be honest...The Beatles, James Brown and Elvis all were singers that sang original songs, their songs...They did not sing someone else's songs to get there...Shouldn't count...
Let's give credit where it's due. No one can argue how the music of Beatles, Elvis and Brown affected their generations and even our present generation. Their songs are part of the music history. On the other hand, Billboard hot 100 is not premised only to original tracks. Remakes are equally welcome in the list. Glee songs have been consistently topping the chart because of the people who support them. Let's face it, gleeks made the olds songs contemporary so present generation can learn to appreciate how songs were then. I have to admit that as much as I like the originals, glee's versions are at par. Nothing beats the originals but there's nothing wrong in embracing the new ones.
The Macarena broke records too, doesnt mean anything at all.
tndrman30, Elvis did not write his own songs.
Remember, folks, it's a different playing field today. 40 years ago, record labels had thousands of artists on their rosters, all releasing new singles rates nearly unheard of today.
Today, the record labels will only sign an act if they're guaranteed to sell more than 500,000 units, making the rosters of the labels much smaller. And most singers release at most three singles per year.
GLEE has taken advantage of this situation by releasing four to six songs per WEEK during the television season. Don't get me wrong; they're (for the most part) great songs. But to compare them to the Beatles and Elvis is essentially comparing apples and oranges. GONE WITH THE WIND vs. AVATAR. Yes, AVATAR made more money, but GONE WITH THE WIND sold way more tickets. Not a fair comparison.
Oh, and Elvis did indeed write some of his hit songs. "Love Me Tender" and "Heartbreak Hotel" come to mind immediately.
You also still can't DOWNLOAD Beatles music. You can only get physical copies of it.
