'Dexter' finds his prey (SPOILERS)
On Sunday's (Oct. 3) "Dexter," we see Dexter (Michael C. Hall) starting to get back on track even though he's still in mourning.Yes, he's found the Dark Passenger a target -- Boyd Fowler (guest star Shawn Hatosy) -- and we'll be watching with glee as he closes in on his prey. (For more on Hatosy, read 'Dexter': Shawn Hatosy sees dead animals.)
Spoilers! Please watch the episode "Hello, Bandit" before reading further.
First of all, how awesome is Hatosy? Boyd is an awkward and unlikable guy, but there's something undeveloped about him that makes him so susceptible to the motivational "Take it!" speaker guy. We don't like Boyd, especially when he turns out to be a monster, but it's a good, clean, cathartic dislike. He's kind of laughable, really.
"Dexter plays it perfectly," Hatosy tells Zap2it. "He's one-upping Boyd, who plays right into it. Also, bad guys don't always know they're bad guys. I think there's something innocent about Boyd. He doesn't see what the harm he's causing the girls. For him it's like this is the way things go."
He won't stand a chance against Dexter. That's another thing we're grateful for. Dexter may still feel emptiness and ennui after discovering Boyd's horrific secret, but we have faith that bringing the roadkill pickup dude to justice is the start of Dexter's path to atonement for somehow failing Rita. Let's consider Boyd a warm up.
Executive producer John Goldwyn confirms to us that Boyd is "first up in the succession of villainous characters in the season." We can't wait to meet the others.
Other musings and highlights:
- We're not sure we'd recognize the traces of an old and dried blood spot on wood. Then again, we're not blood spatter experts ... or serial killers.
- That was a neat trick with the pregnancy test, right?
- Don't you wish Dexter followed through with the knife and Elliot?
- This Santa Muerte plot is giving us the willies.
- It's kind of gruesome, but we kind of get why Astor wanted to see the tub.
- Dexter about Boyd: "He's CSI-ing me ... He's definitely peculiar, but I guess the best and brightest don't get into dead animal pickup."
- We're totally over this Angel and Maria marriage thing, especially the money issue.
- Quinn is cracking us up in how he's handling Deb. How can she resist?
How'd you like this episode compared to the premiere?
