'Brothers & Sisters' preview: The beginning of the end for Rebecca
Zap2it got an early viewing of this Sunday's Oct. 10 episode of "Brothers & Sisters" and it was a quite good, as well as educational, hour.
We get a lot more details of what transpired during the one-year lapse between this season and the last. Plus, Emily VanCamp returns to wrap up Rebecca's storyline. The episode is called "Faking it," so we thought we'd give you a preview of why the episode earned that title.
Warning: Spoilers below!

Kitty (Calista Flockhart): Kitty is now living in her rented home at Ojai and trying to do things that take her out of her comfort zone. Then, she meets a local handyman, Jack (Jeremy Davidson), who detests the house renters in Ojai for being so pretentious. He rattles off several pet peeves that describe Kitty (including politicians), so she decides to create a totally new persona unlike herself. After all, handsome Jack may very well prove to be very handy...
Sarah (Rachel Griffiths): It's Sarah's some-number-above-40 birthday, but she has led Luc (Gilles Marini) to believe all this time that she's just barely turning 40. Oops. Luc is keeping his own secret - a surprise birthday dinner for her! Can the Walkers keep her age secret? And what else has Luc been keeping from Sarah?
Nora (Sally Field): We've already been able to gather that her boss is evil and that her job as a florist is ridiculous. And now the writers have, as well.

Rebecca (Emily VanCamp): As a result of Justin's (Dave Annable) visits with Holly (Patricia Wettig), in which he has been talking up Rebecca, the family thinks it's time Holly see her again. But, could the family be wrong? Also, Justin reveals a secret that he has known for a while about their marriage and has been keeping away from the family.
So, let the countdown begin. Rebecca will only be sticking around for a couple episodes. Will you miss her?

I will miss Rebecca and the lovely Emily Van Camp but if the producers are casting new love interests for Justin, I am available!
Thanks for the great sneak peek!!
They should have kept Rebecca and got rid of Holly. The amnesia storyline is pathetic to the point that it annoys the sh*t out of me and I have to mute the scenes. Just saying!
I hate to see her go and I will miss her. After all she and Justin have been thru it is a shame that the writters will split this couple. She is a beautiful young lady and I'd love to have seen her stay. Does anyone know if she asked to leave to do something else or was her role just taken out.
I really like Emily VanCamp as an actress, but I've hated the character of Rebecca for the past two seasons. Too whiny, too wimpy, too wishy-washy. Good riddance, I say.
I'm not sure how Holly will continue to fit into the show without her, though, as Ojai seems to be done and none of the Walkers has any real connection to her (aside from Justin being her son-in-law).
The show is desperately in need of a new direction anyway, so maybe by ditching some of the characters, they can give new life to a show that has grown stale and tiresome. The one-year jump didn't change ANYTHING...
Mae, Emily VanCamp asked to leave the show. All told, I think they peaked in season 3. Been downhill from there as much as it pains me to say it. I used to look forward to this show. In season 4 I instantly felt something different, watched it last of all my shows, and after watching Sunday's episode to its halfway point, deleted it from my DVR recording list. I will go back to watching Everwood DVDs. I may finish this show on DVD years from now. Here's what EVC
had to say about her departure-
AUSIELLO: Is it true that you’re leaving?
EMILY VANCAMP: It is true. I’m going to go back for a couple of episodes, which I’m really excited about. I really feel like Rebecca has run her course. And the deal I was offered this year was for two more years, and I just felt like since renegotiations were happening that maybe it would be the right time to move on. I’ve been doing this for a very long time, and other opportunities have presented themselves that I haven’t been able to do. I’ve had such an amazing four years on the show and I felt like maybe it was time. It was a big risk, but I’m really excited about it.
AUSIELLO: Isn’t a six- or seven-year contract standard practice when you join a show?
VANCAMP: It is. I think [ABC] decided that they wanted to renegotiate with me and, I think, different cast members. All I know is what was happening with me. They [wanted to] renegotiate for the next couple of years and the idea of doing two more years was slightly daunting —not because I haven’t appreciated every single moment on that show. I’ve had such a brilliant time, and I had the opportunity to work with some of the best — I’m so grateful for that. But with family dramas, it’s hard to keep those stories alive. I just felt like it was time to move on.
AUSIELLO: There’s speculation that you were a casualty of widespread budget cuts at the show. Not true?
VANCAMP: I’d like to think that it was a mutual agreement. I don’t really make decisions based on [money]. For me, it was really a creative thing….I did a lot of soul-searching. It’s a big risk for me to take. [B&S showrunner David Marshall Grant responds: "We love Emily. Everyone here loves Emily. She wanted to try other things and I don't think anyone here wanted to stand in the way of her dreams."]
I still think of her as Amy from "Everwood". I still miss that show so much.
When I could stand to watch the show, she was probably my favorite character.
If I were still watching, I'd be really sad to see her go. Justin didn't deserve her.
I will definitely miss Rebecca. I love this show but they ruined it when they took the family away from the family-run business. They should have left that alone. I am very disappointed with the show without Rebecca, Tommy and Robert. They should go back to basics. The first 2 years were great.
