'America's Next Top Model': Can Ann really take the prize?

americas-next-top-model-the-cw-ANN.jpgViewers are finding some schizophrenia in this season's high fashion "America's Next Top Model." For example, Wednesday's Oct. 13 episode starts at Walmart and ends in Beverly Hills. Maybe, we can chalk it up to the competition still finding its "high fashion" footing and stumbling in the process.

There should be some things, though, that longtime fans can still trust while watching the series -- "Top Model" criteria that will always be true, such as a "top model" needs to be the full package. After all, she must be photogenic, but she also should be able to move product or get booked for jobs with her personality. That brings us to now five-time winner, Ann.

Before we go any further, let's make something very clear: We adore Ann. Nothing would make us happier than if a shy, awkward, formerly bullied girl like her took the prize.

On the other hand, we have to be realistic. Even after four wins and her confidence bolstered, Ann couldn't muster any charisma in the Cover Girl challenge. And Nigel Barker has said numerous times that the winner should be photogenic, but her presence should also make him want to book her for a job.

To her credit, she knows she has homework when it comes to her public persona. Can she acquire the skills before the Cover Girl TV commercial and go-see challenges?

Do you believe Ann can ultimately take the prize?

I think it'll be the thing to knock her off. Just look at season 9's Heather -- beautiful, photogenic, annihilated the competition, but once it got to the spokesmodel/personality section (i.e. that damn Covergirl commercial), she fell apart. I think no matter what happens here, Ann will work and she'll do well for herself, but I can't see her taking it.

rooting for her! Its nice to see humble shy people.. and awesome to see that fake kacey out of the game! Go Ann and Keyla!

I don't see why not. If Ann is determined to become a model. she's doing her best. She does have what Vogue Italia may be looking for but Covergirl will be the biggest hurdle she will have to face. I think she will go far whether she wins or not. Many eliminated contestants are even doing a little better than the winners.

Tyra's project is Ann this year, and while she's a very likeable person, the bias is unpleasant television. Realistically, first of all, her face is average at best: no way is she pretty enough to be a leading model (okay, this is often the case with several of the contestants each cycle). Secondly, remember how Tyra this cycle kicked out one contestant because of her 'anorexic' look? Look at how skinny Ann is. Thirdly, her main shots last night and last week were relatively poor; both weeks she looked somewhat alienated from what she was ostensibly involved in; this week that was exactly the criticism that helped get Kacey last place, but somehow a reasonably similar Ann shot gets her first place (for a shot the famous photographer called "pretty good").

Sincere compliments boost a person's confidence, insincere ones do the opposite if you pick up on it. Like many shy people, Ann is pretty analytical, and I think she picks up on the bias.

I'm rooting for Ann and for Chris, who is a long shot to win it. Ann's gonna have a problem projecting her personality when it comes to those covergirl commercials. The girl can't take a bad picture even if she tried, lol! Love her shyness. Sorry she was bullied. Ann's got this if she can come out of her shell.

Ann is the most lovely creature I have ever seen.

Ann isn't a pretty, pretty girl next door type that is normally favourted on ANTM. What Ann is (to fairleft) is an honest to God high fashion model. Top girls aren't pretty much of the time, but when they get in front of a camera a strange alchemy takes place - it shows just how false all previous ANTM seasons have been, there's never been a girl like Ann, because there's never been a high fashion girl on the programme before.

And I think it's wrong to assume that CoverGirl will be dictating who wins this time round, rather influence will come from that bible of High fashion Vogue Italia, and they favour girls like Ann.

She isn't humble she is DULL! And she showed her true colors tonight by picking out such an awkward outfit for the girl on her team. I can't stand her... kick her off!

Ann looks like she has an Adam's apple. Hmmm.

Just because Ann was picked on does not make her the next top model. On what planet would this women be attractive? No way could she do a cover girl commercial. She can barely put a sentence together.

Ann might be able to be stunning in an editorial, but walking in a catwalk or television is out.
