ZAP2IT ON THE SCENE: Undercovers set
'Undercovers': Introducing Mekia Cox, the 'boy crazy' Lizzy Gilliam
We're not being very covert about our excitement about NBC's "Undercovers." We've named the spy drama one of our top to watch for fall. So, we were really excited when we had the chance to visit the set recently. While we'll be rolling out most of our video interviews in the week leading up to the show's premiere on Wednesday, Sept. 22, we did think you'd want to meet the newest addition to the cast, Mekia Cox, right away.
She plays Samantha Bloom's (Gugu Mbatha-Raw) sister, Lizzy Gilliam. She replaced Jessica Parker Kennedy, who played the part in the pilot. Cox says the transition wasn't too bad.
"I came in and everyone was so super nice," she tells Zap2it. "Immediately, it felt like family. [Parker Kennedy] was a great girl, as well. They loved her too, but they still welcomed me with open arms, which I was very thankful for."
Viewers may recall Cox from her stint as Sasha on "90210," which, as we reported first, she'll be reprising in Season 3. But, you may also be surprised to hear that Cox is a pretty accomplished dancer and she danced with Michael Jackson on the documentary, "This Is It."
You'd think after scoring a gig with the prince of pop that Cox could handle any audition, but she tells us she was really nervous about meeting "Undercovers" executive producer, J.J. Abrams, the man behind "Lost" and "Alias."
"[Abrams] is just such a down to earth person that all those nerves just went away," she says. "I had maybe one of the best auditions I feel I've had. And, I think it's because of his energy. He gives off such amazing energy and it allows you to be good at what you do."
The day we were on-set, they were shooting Episode 7 and Cox says she has learned a lot about her character since the pilot we saw. First of all, her character has had a rocky past and she says, "Lizzie likes the boys. She's a little boy crazy, yeah."

Studios need to stop sending out dvds of their shows and movies to people becasue they'll eventually end up on the internet. ABC has a problem because the pilot for No Ordinary Family is post on a few sites. Fox Studios wake because your stuff is all over the net.
You have to give NBC credit for green lighting a show with non-white leads. Hopefully the viewing public will give it a chance.
